Mickle Families,
There are three weeks left in the '22-'23 school year. While I don't know where time goes, I do know that it seems to go there faster every year. Our focus over the next three weeks will be working with students to finish strong, or to get caught back up prior to the end of the year. As always we encourage families to check with ParentVue and communicate with teachers about student progress in class.
Within this newsletter you will find information from various classrooms, building departments, as well as the district office. If you have any questions or need more information as we prepare to wrap up another school year, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. Thank you to the Mickle Community for a great school year.
Jason Shanahan, Principal
It's been an amazing year for the Mickle School Counseling Team! We have facilitated 14 small groups, presented multiple classroom lessons, worked on attendance and academic goals, and have completed over 4,000 one-on-one counseling sessions. Our team also had the opportunity to present at the Nebraska School Counselor's Academy. We have so enjoyed serving our students in the areas of academics, attendance, social/emotional health, and college & career planning. If you have any questions about our work or want to partner, please reach out, we love to collaborate!
Thanks for a great year!

In the Mickle Health Office we are busy ending this school year by sending 8th grade health folders and health information to their chosen high school, identifying health concerns for summer school students, plus preparing for our incoming 6th graders for the new school year. Here are some health office reminders for the summer:
1. When completing ‘Online Registration’ for the next school year, please complete the Ibuprofen/Acetaminophen Medication form. Online registration usually does not begin till the end of July. It is great to have a completed form so we can treat your student if they have a headache, muscular pain, etc. It is rare for a student to overuse, plus they can only have 5 doses in 30 days.
2. If your next year 7th grade student visits the dentist over the summer, please update Mickle at Mickle@lps.org. Next fall all 7th graders will have a health screening per Nebraska State statute. This includes hearing, vision, dental, and height/weight. If they did visit their dentist during 2022, we do not need to perform a dental screening in the health office.
3. Another reminder that all 7th grade students in the State of Nebraska require a completed physical examination and a tetanus booster immunization (Tdap). We have already received several and thank you.
Please call us if any questions about next school year or summer school!

7th and 8th grade track season will conclude this week with the all-city meet. Practice and meet schedules will be found on the Intramural tab on the Mickle website HERE. We know that supporting your child during these activities is important to families. Unfortunately, spectators will not be allowed at any practice.
The end of the school year is approaching and that means that it is time to return books to the school library. To see the titles that your student needs to return before the end of the year follow these steps:
Begin at portal.lps.org
Enter your student’s ID and password (If you don’t have this information, the school office can provide it for you).
Select “Destiny Discover” from the alphabetical listing in the portal.
From the upper right hand corner of the screen, select login and select Log in using your account with New LPS Portal.
On the top row, hover your mouse over “My Stuff”.
Select “Checkouts” from the dropdown menu to see the books that are currently checked out.
Keep reading all summer long with Sora and Comics Plus. Both can be accessed through the LPS portal.
Mickle Garden Summer Opportunity
During the summer, students from Mickle help take care our school garden. Students will learn how to plant, pick produce, water the garden, and other general maintenance. Mickle staff will be onsite Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 am - 10 am, from May 31st - August 4th, to work with students. Students can once or twice a week or whenever they are available throughout the summer. If your student is interested, please have them pick up a permission slip from Mrs. Hammond or the office. Current high school students needing GoPo hours for their Government & Politics class can earn hours in the garden. Reach out to Mrs. Hammond at khammond@lps.org if you have any questions.
If you would like to receive text messages from Mickle or LPS to your phone, this document will assist you in setting that up.
