Mickle Families,
I am excited for the official start of the 2021-2022 school year; my first year as principal of Mickle Middle School. Our school has a talented and dedicated staff, and I am eager to join them in serving the students and families of the Mickle community.
Prior to becoming principal at Mickle, I served as principal of Irving Middle School for the past five years. I have also worked as an associate principal at Irving, and an instructional coordinator at Schoo Middle School. In my 23 years as an educator, I have worked in Bellevue, Kearney, and Goddard (Kansas) Public School Districts. As a building principal, I believe open communication with families encourages collaborative relationships that produce the greatest outcomes for our students. This newsletter is an example of a resource I will utilize to communicate with households on a monthly basis.
The past school year was both unprecedented and unpredictable. I am hopeful the coming months will offer a return to a more "normal" school year. However, regardless of the challenges and obstacles that we may face, I am confident we will navigate those together in the best interest of our students.
I look forward to meeting many of you at the upcoming open house events and throughout the fall. Below you will find helpful information that I hope will assist in establishing a positive start to the school year.
My best,
Jason Shanahan, Principal

This club requires students and guardians to complete a safety permission slip and participate in CLC. The club will meet Mondays and Thursdays during Quarter 1 from 3:15 - 4:15 pm. Students can participate either one day or both days every week. If you have any questions contact Mrs. Hammond at khammond@lps.org.

The Role of a School Counselor - School counselors are highly educated, professionally certified individuals who help students succeed in school and plan their careers. An integral part of the total education system, school counselors help students form healthy goals, mindsets, and behaviors. With the aid of a school counselor, students learn to develop effective collaboration and cooperation skills, to practice perseverance, to develop time management and study skills, and to learn self-motivation and self-direction habits.
Schedules - Your student's schedule will be available on StudentVue/ParentVue. Please note that counselors will be back in the Building on August 5 and schedules may change. If you have any questions please email your grade-specific counselor.

On Monday, Sept 13, the “Missile Market” will be open at the end of the school day from 2:50pm-3:30pm. Mickle will again be partnering with the Food Bank of Lincoln after school each month for free, on-site access to food offerings from the Food Bank. Any students are welcome to come and pull items as their family representative. If parents would prefer to represent the family, that is just fine.
To take advantage of the partnership, no sign up is needed and there is no cost to families. The only documentation that is recorded is "how many people will this offering go to support". The Food Bank will provide big bags to put the food in, as well as produce bags for available produce.
-At 2:50pm, an announcement will be made for a student representative of their family to come and begin the pick up process. Students will be asked to gather their locker belongings to leave for the day THEN come to the Market.
-Students will be directed to head home after stopping at the Market.
-Food items will not be allowed back into the building/classroom/locker areas. CLC or intramural students will have their items stored in a secure location until the end of activities.
-IF an adult would rather represent the family and take home the items, adults will be asked to enter through the main front entrance (Door #1), check in with the entrance adult, then proceed down to the Market in the west gym.
-After selecting items, adults will be asked to leave through '7th grade doors' which is the closest exit by the gym (Door #7).
