Hey, there!
I'm Maggie Deschaine Wiehn (Ms. Wiehn), an English teacher at Northwest High School.
Although a serious blessing, technology can--at times--be a beast, am I right? This landing page seeks to be your go-to hub for all things English.
Best to start at the page named for whichever course you are enrolled in, but feel free to click around and see all of the resources available to you.
I'm so glad YOU are here!
Fast Facts
I'm 33! More often than not, my birthday falls on one of the first days of school.
This is my twelfth year of teaching. Time flies when you are having fun, so they say. :) Over my career, I spent two years at Beatrice High School, five years at Lincoln North Star, three years at Schoo Middle School, and my last two years here at Lincoln Northwest!
I met my partner while working at North Star. We are/were both teachers and coaches and love getting to know our students in and out of the classroom. Nick and I just welcomed our first child in the summer of 2023. We absolutely love her!
Trees are my perfect metaphor for all things life. I even have a tattoo of a deciduous tree during winter on my arm. A comedian once called it a Charlie Brown tree and my parents still cannot stop laughing.

My Teaching Beliefs
Every student is capable of great things; every student can learn and achieve.
Part of the human condition makes all of us natural, life-long learners.
The best teachers of writing are writers themselves,* and as such, if I ask my students to do something, I need to be willing and able to also do it myself.
Living in a place of intellectual and emotional disequilibrium is the stuff of growth.
Living life's questions, rather than rushing to find the answers, is where real learning happens.
I believe in kindness, respect, and joy in the everyday things of life.
I believe in developing positive relationships.
I believe in preparing my students for life in the world.
I believe we all have the ability and openness to change for the better.
*This is also a core belief of the Nebraska Writing Project, an organization that has had a huge influence on my teaching career.
