Mickle Families,
It is hard to believe that the end of the first quarter is less than two weeks away. Students are into the rhythm of the school year and are actively balancing classes with busy schedules both inside and outside of the school setting. This month's newsletter is full of information to keep families up-to-speed on what's going on here at Mickle and also within the community at large.

October is National Bullying Prevention Month. To reinforce the importance of bullying prevention, the LPS Strategic Plan supports student and staff wellbeing and outcomes as priority areas. Our LPS Anti-Bullying Policy commits to providing physically safe and emotionally secure environments for all students and staff. To support this policy, bullying prevention is taught through a variety of content areas and opportunities. In addition, all LPS middle and high schools have a Hope Squad. Hope Squad members are respectful and empathetic UPSTANDERS who aim to connect their peers to a trusted adult who can help. Our continued focus is to increase awareness of bullying prevention and provide opportunities for students to apply self awareness, social awareness and responsible decision making skills. We are committed to creating strong connections and a sense of belonging for all students as we stand up against bullying.
Thank you for your continued support with bullying prevention efforts in Lincoln Public Schools. Below are resources for families about bullying prevention.

The Mickle Garden Club is doing a garden workday on October 18th from 9 am - 11 am in the Mickle Garden. We would love for students, staff, and parents to come and help us prepare the garden for the winter. We will be cleaning up the garden and taking apart some of our garden beds to prepare for planting in the spring. Donuts and other snacks will be provided. If you have any questions contact Katie Hammond, khammond@lps.org
The Mickle Garden Club is looking for hostas of all shapes and sizes. If you are splitting your hostas this fall, please consider donating some of them to be planted in a shaded portion of the Mickle Garden. Contact Katie Hammond at khammond@lps.org if you have questions or some plants to share.

Every Day Counts! Take steps to keep kids healthy… With students back in school, so are the germs. Here are some ways you can help keep your family safe and reduce the number of days they are home sick from school:
● Make sure your child eats nutritious meals, stays hydrated with water, and gets plenty of physical activity and sleep.Teach students the importance of hand washing and practice how to do it correctly.
● Remind students to cough and sneeze into the crook of their elbow or into a tissue. ● Stay up-to-date with routine well-child and dental visits.
● Keep your child’s immunizations current, including flu and COVID-19 vaccines.
● Work with your healthcare provider and the school health office to manage chronic health conditions and develop a school action plan.
● Click here to learn when your student should stay home from school.
Every Day Counts when it comes to your child being successful in school! We value your partnership and know you also want your child to succeed. Let’s work together to ensure your student regularly attends school!
Important Date-- October 15, 2025
Start of 2nd Quarter and Deadline for all students to be immunized. Please submit any new vaccination records to the school health office. Health Offices are reaching out to families of students with immunization needs, please make an appointment to have any needed vaccinations to avoid exclusion from school.
Reminder: School Screening Continues!
Health Offices are continuing to complete screening for vision, hearing, dental health and height/weight. Parents/guardians are notified of the screening result if the student is found to need further evaluation, as determined by a qualified screener and comparison of individual data with an objective standard. The cost of such evaluation shall be borne by the parent or guardian of the student.
Has your student had a dental appointment? If your child has seen a dentist, please contact the Health Office and report the date of the last dental exam. A parent or guardian may submit current dental exam results in lieu of school dental health screening. If dental exam results are not received, your child will have dental screening completed.

Parenting a “Chromebook student” can present some interesting challenges. While few students would choose to do worksheets all evening just for fun, your student might actually WANT to be on their Chromebook at night. It can be hard to tell what they’re focusing on while staring at the device screen. Use this Parent Guide to Student Chromebooks & the Digital Learning Environment in LPS resource to help inform your conversations about expectations for Chromebook use at home.
There is a lot that parents COULD know about the tools their students use in LPS. These are the 10 most important things! 10 Things to Know about Student Technology in LPS
As a reminder, damage caused on purpose, or because of a lack of care for the Chromebook, cannot be covered by the Chromebook Assurance Program (CAP). Families will be billed for any intentional damage.
Diverse Books for All!
Are you looking for books with diverse characters and themes? MOSAIC is an annual collection of high-interest diverse books for preschool through high school students reviewed by LPS librarians and educators.

Our students are learning about online communication and etiquette. Here are some prompts to help you continue the conversation at home:
What do you like to do online? What are some positive ways you use technology?
How do you use good manners online?
What is the difference between face-to-face and online conversations? When would it be better to talk to someone in person rather than texting or posting something online?
Why should you ask permission before posting a photo or video of someone else online?
How do you avoid other online distractions (games, browsing other websites, etc.) while doing schoolwork online?
