Lincoln Northwest currently offers one debate formats Lincoln Douglas.
Lincoln Douglas (LD) Debate is an event where two debaters compete one-on-one debate over a given resolution. Resolutions are framed around both domestic and international issues such as nuclear weapons policy, climate change, and space exploration. There are a total of five speeches, three given by the affirmative and two given by the negative. The affirmative speaker will defend that a resolution is the best way to support their proposed value. For example, a resolution that cuts down on fossil fuel usage may be the best way to achieve a prioritization of human life. The negation will argue that the resolution hurts their proposed value.
LD Debate is wonderful to develop critical thinking and research skills while enhancing public speaking skills.
