Homework Hub is a fantastic resource available for all Irving students! Several Irving teachers sponsor Homework Hub and help students complete daily homework assignments, complete missing work, study for upcoming assessments and create a space for students to focus on learning and develop strong study habits.
Homework Hub occurs Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday afterschool from 3:10 - 4:00. Any student is welcome and sometimes if/when a student has a missing assignment or needs a space to complete an assignment, teachers will reach out to families to assign Hub to ensure students have every opportunity to successfully complete and turn in assignments.
Several Irving teachers are sponsoring Homework Hub! Cathy Mohlman is our Homework Hub liaison & her email address is cmohlman@lps.org.
**No Homework Hub on Thursday, February 26 due to Parent Teacher Conferences**
BOYS BASKETBALL INFORMATION
Lincoln Public Schools does post updates and intramural schedules. This site can be found here.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email me at rokamoto@lps.org or individual team coaches. We are really looking forward to a great basketball season. If your student has to miss practice for any reason, please encourage them to notify their coaches. Go Aardvarks!
Irving Intramural Sports is always accepting sports supplies that are in good condition.
High need items at the moment are soccer cleats in size 8 mens (6.5 mens) and larger, soccer balls size 5 (full size), small soccer goals, men's basketballs, track spikes size 8 mens and up.
Additional supplies are always appreciated. Please email Grayson Vaughn (gvaughn@lps.org) or Robyn Okamoto (rokamoto@lps.org) if you have any supplies you would like to donate.
As a reminder, only immediate family is allowed to attend games and any sibling or child in the household who is not participating in the game or meet can be in attendance must have an adult to supervise. Students not playing are not allowed to attend and will be asked to leave. Schools do not have the space nor supervision to allow additional spectators.
Did you know… the first two weeks of school are an important time when students establish routines and learning habits?
If students miss at least two days of school per month or more, it impacts not only their ability to gain important reading, math and relational skills, but it can be an early indicator of not graduating on time. Every Day Counts when it comes to your child being successful in school.
We value your partnership and know you also want your child to succeed. Let’s work together to ensure your student regularly attends school!
Routines: Establishing a routine of on-time daily attendance helps reduce stress at home, and supports a habit of attendance that will help your child succeed.
Engagement: Being in school helps students to get to know school staff and each other. Building relationships can motivate participation in learning.
Access to resources: Schools provide access to valuable resources such as meals, health supports and fun enrichment activities such as sports, clubs, music, and other afterschool programs.
Learning: Students who attend school regularly as early as elementary school do better academically and are more likely to graduate from high school on time.
How you can help:
Start now setting a regular bedtime and morning routine.
Lay out clothes and backpacks the night before.
Take steps to keep your child healthy and make sure they have the required immunizations.
Develop backup plans for getting to school if something comes up. Identify a family member, a neighbor, or another parent you can call for help in getting your child to school.
Try to schedule non-urgent related medical appointments and extended trips when school isn’t in session. You can find the 2025-2026 LPS Student Calendar here.
If your child seems anxious about going to school, talk to teachers, school counselors and other parents for advice on how to make your child feel comfortable and excited about learning.
Work with the school to find opportunities for your child to get involved in a school activity or club to help build excitement in attending school. Approximately 98% of LPS students who participated in athletics and activities graduated high school on time.
Reach out to school staff if you need help eliminating barriers for your child
Walled Garden
There are many “layers” of digital protections that follow your student as they progress through their life in LPS. Informed by federal/state laws, and guided by LPS Board of Education policies, the District builds a digital “walled garden” where students are able to collaborate with peers and teachers, while also keeping their data secure.
Learn more about how your student’s data privacy is protected here: LPS Computing Services | Data Privacy
Connecting in the Community
LPS students using their LPS Chromebooks around town should connect to a more secure network whenever it is available. LPS has partnered with organizations to provide the following options:
Eduroam
The eduroam wireless network is a secure, world-wide wireless roaming access service for the international research and education community. Students can find it in several establishments around Lincoln. Simply select it from the list of available networks - no other steps needed! Visit this eduroam poster and/or LPS jump code: pao4 for more information.
Allo SmartTown
Allo SmartTown for Education is a partnership between Allo and LPS to provide optional, community-wide wireless internet access to LPS. This program is available for LPS students in grades 6-12 who request access and have parent permission. With over 100,000 access points across Lincoln, students can access the internet from a variety of locations without cost to the student or family. Information for getting started can be found in this Allo SmartTown Setup document.
LPS students have access to a vast collection of digital resources, including reference materials, magazines, and newspaper articles. One of the best tools is the Gale database, where you can find answers to almost any question and dive deep into topics that interest you. Whether you're working on a research project or just curious about the world, Gale is a fantastic resource to explore!
To access Gale, click the icon on the LPS Portal and choose the most relevant Gale Database for your needs.
At LPS, we teach students that privacy policies are in place to protect their personal information when they are at school or use LPS devices. Take a moment to extend their learning on data privacy by discussing the following questions with your student:
What is a privacy policy? (It explains how an application or service will use your personal information, photos, videos, and may include age requirements.)
What private information do some companies collect through apps and online services?
Why is it risky for companies to have your private information, and what could they do with it that might be harmful?

This season, the Irving PTSO is inviting our families to help us spread a little kindness around school!
We’re looking for support in two meaningful ways:
Donate to the Aardvark Store, where students “shop” for fun items using their hard-earned Aardvark likes.
Sign up to help with Parent-Teacher Conference meals by bringing food or supplies to show our appreciation for our amazing staff.
Short on time? Online donations to the Irving PTSO are always accepted and much appreciated.
Whether it’s a sweet treat, a snack, or a helping hand, every contribution makes a difference and helps remind our students and teachers just how much we appreciate them!
We couldn’t do this without you!
As we enter a busy stretch of the school year, it’s common for students to feel more tired, less patient, or less motivated. One of the most helpful things families can do at home is focus on the basics that support learning and wellbeing. Consistent routines for sleep, homework, and screen time, regular check-ins about the school day, and encouragement to keep trying even when things feel hard all make a big difference. Reinforcing these everyday habits help students feel secure, supported, and ready to learn. Small, steady actions at home strengthen the foundation students need to stay engaged and successful at school.
In the coming weeks, there will be a four way stop installed at Lake St and 22nd St. Currently, there is a two way stop with stop signs on 22nd St. Stop signs will now be added to Lake Street as well. This will hopefully reduce speeding on Lake St and it will enhance the safety of everyone using that intersection (people in vehicles and students walking).
In addition, you may have noticed, the morning drop off & after school pick up at Irving is a busy time. In order to keep our students safe and to increase efficiency, we have worked with our district safety and security personnel to develop a traffic plan for before school drop off & after school pick up. This plan was established in 2022-2023, and reviewed regularly as we promote a safe drop off/pick up process. You will notice at the beginning of the year, administrators will be at student cross walks before and after school and there will be an increase in supervision as we know it will take all of us working together to ensure the new traffic plan is a success. Below is a link that describes the plan in detail:
After School Program
Lincoln Parks and Recreation has been serving Irving Middle School families after school since 1977. Much has changed in the past 39 years, and we believe supervised, safe, fun, and meaningful after school activities are as important as ever for middle school students. Some students visit the rec. center simply because they need a place to go after school; however, our staff is intentional about making the center "more than just a place to go." After school staff does this by focusing on a positive environment, supportive relationships, and constructive programs. During after school hours at Irving Recreation Center, middle school students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of age-appropriate, fun, and enriching activities. Students can stay as busy as they’d like with homework, clubs, and special events, or they can simply choose to socialize with friends. We encourage all students to be engaged and take advantage of the activity choices available at the rec. center.
