Greetings Irving students, families & staff,
Greetings Irving students, families and staff! The 2025-2026 school year is certainly winding down. We have several fun events to look forward to as we continue to celebrate our students and the Irving community. I hope you'll spend a few minutes reading the newsletter so you may see all of the exciting events throughout the month of April!
Reminders for families:
Traffic Pattern & Protocols
Please be mindful of our before and after school Irving traffic plan & protocols. Now that the weather is trending in the warmer direction, many students walk or ride bikes/scooters/skateboards to school. We aim to keep all students safe and traffic moving smoothly! Key factors are listed below:
During drop off (7:40 am - 8:00 am) and pick up (2:40 pm-3:00 pm) all traffic on 22nd street drives south towards Van Dorn Street
During drop off (7:40 am - 8:00 am) and pick up (2:40 pm-3:00 pm) all traffic going south may only turn right onto Van Dorn Street
Encourage your student to ALWAYS use the cross-walks
After School Expectations
Irving staff supervise student dismissal each day until 3:10. Students should leave school grounds by 3:15 each day UNLESS they are participating in an after school club, Homework Hub, Intramural sports, have made arrangements to work with a teacher or have been assigned after school detention time. Students participating in programming at the Rec Center are also asked to be at the Rec Center by 3:10 each day. If a student is late to the Rec Center, the Irving staff working with the student, will write a pass for the student to participate in programming at the Rec Center.
Please encourage your child to leave school grounds promptly after school. We are happy to work with families if/when students need to remain after school on occasion due to transportation conflicts.
Nuisance Items
Please remind students to keep nuisance items at home. For your reference, here is the information outlined in the 2024-2025 Student/Parent Handbook:
Any articles which disrupt the learning environment shall be considered nuisance items and will be confiscated by staff. Typically, objects like toys, electronic devices, headphones, ear buds, laser pointers or fidgets are included in this list. Students should not bring these items to school. Articles students use on the way to school, like hats, coats and bags, are to be left in their hall locker for the day. If articles of
value are confiscated from a student, they will be returned to the student at the end of the school day or to the student's parents/guardians.

Each year Lincoln Public Schools sends a District Perception Survey to all LPS parents/guardians, certified staff, and students in grades 4-12 to gather information about their perceptions of their school. Results provide feedback to school staff that is used to improve teaching, learning, and the school environment. LPS families received an email on Monday, March 16 from this email address: noreply@qemailserver.com. Your response will be appreciated!
Students will complete the survey during school on Monday, March 30 and Tuesday March 31. Our 6th grade students will take the perception survey in their Humanities classes & our 7th & 8th grade students will take the survey during their Health classes. Here is the Student Survey Preview Link if you would like to review student items.
Homework Hub is a fantastic resource available for all Irving students! Several Irving teachers sponsor Homework Hub and help students complete daily homework assignments, complete missing work, study for upcoming assessments and create a space for students to focus on learning and develop strong study habits.
Homework Hub occurs Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday afterschool from 3:10 - 4:00. Any student is welcome and sometimes if/when a student has a missing assignment or needs a space to complete an assignment, teachers will reach out to families to assign Hub to ensure students have every opportunity to successfully complete and turn in assignments.

It’s said a body needs 8 hours of sleep every night. That’s especially true during the testing season. Student Chromebooks also need a good night of charging. Please help your students remember to bring their Chromebooks fully charged every day.
LPS believes that effective instruction can and should include the appropriate use of instructional technology to support learning. To that end, a District Instructional Technology Tool (ITT) Committee works to identify ITTs that are safe for student use, support district learning goals, and encourage innovative teaching and learning. All reviewed ITTs are cataloged in the LPS ITT Matrix.
The most frequently used, approved, and supported ITTs are made available to students and staff in the LPS Portal. Students access their LPS Portal by clicking the ‘HOME’ button on their Chromebook.
Need a conversation starter with your student? Ask them for a tour of their LPS Portal and which ITTs they’re currently using in class.
This summer, your school library offers exciting online reading options! A standout choice is Sora, which provides students with instant access to thousands of eBooks, comics, magazines, and audiobooks. Whether you’re on a long car ride or relaxing at home, Sora lets you enjoy your favorite reads anytime, anywhere on your devices. You can also add Lincoln City Libraries in Sora to access even more eBooks. To learn more, check out the Sora Information Flyer.
Another option is Teen Book Cloud. Teen Book Cloud is an online collection of eBooks, enhanced novels, graphic novels, videos, and audiobooks, which offers students and adults of all reading levels access to an amazing range of content. For more information on this fabulous resource, talk to your school librarian!
You can access Teen Book Cloud and Sora by going to the LPS Portal and typing in your student's LPS ID number and password. Happy reading!
Social media can be a great way for teens to connect and learn, but it also comes with risks like cyberbullying and misinformation. Parents play an important role in helping their teens handle these challenges and build healthy online habits.
To start a conversation with your child, try asking:
What do you like about using social media, and what do you think can be tricky about it?
How do you decide what’s okay to share or post online?
Have you ever seen someone being mean to someone else online? What did you do?

After School Program
Lincoln Parks and Recreation has been serving Irving Middle School families after school since 1977. Much has changed in the past 39 years, and we believe supervised, safe, fun, and meaningful after school activities are as important as ever for middle school students. Some students visit the rec. center simply because they need a place to go after school; however, our staff is intentional about making the center "more than just a place to go." After school staff does this by focusing on a positive environment, supportive relationships, and constructive programs. During after school hours at Irving Recreation Center, middle school students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of age-appropriate, fun, and enriching activities. Students can stay as busy as they’d like with homework, clubs, and special events, or they can simply choose to socialize with friends. We encourage all students to be engaged and take advantage of the activity choices available at the rec. center.
