Over the last few school years, Hartley parents as part of the Community in Action group have worked in partnership with Lincoln Transportation and Utilities and the Lincoln-Lancaster Health Department - Injury Prevention team to address pedestrian safety around our school building. Concerns were raised in regards to students and other community members when they are walking and riding on the streets around Hartley. Excessive speeds on both 33rd street and Vine street were discussed. Over the summer of 2024 improvements were made on T Street as well as at the intersection of 33rd and Vine to help improve pedestrian safety.Â
The parents in the Community in Action group hope to continue advocating for the safety of students and community members when they are on the go. If you would like to be a part of this conversation, please attend future Community in Action meetings or reach out to Angela at angela.lorenz2@lps.org.
