Students are expected to arrive on time and gather in the gymnasium. On occasion, students are told to line up in the hallway by our door instead. Once in the classroom, students will have the opportunity to choose what they are buying for luch, unpack, and get started on their morning work.
Each day, workshop begins with a mini-lesson on a reading skill or strategy. Students will practice using these strategies in stories read in the anthology and through several novels/read alouds.
Students also read independently and are reminded to apply the skill or strategy learned.

Snack should be packed for students with needed utensils. We have 10 minutes for snack. Students must try to use the restroom at this time as to not interrupt direct instruction later. Soft music, a video or free talk may happen during snack. A working snack may be used if needed.

Writing Genres: Personal Narrative, Opinion, Expository, Persuasive, Narrative, How-To, and Descriptive Writing
Focus on typed published work through Google Classroom
One-on-one conferences and peer collaboration with a writing partner
Focus on using Organization, Sentence Structure, Grammar
Figurative Language, Applying Vocabulary, and using Descriptive Details
Students will review grammar and spelling during this time.
After a diagnostic test, children will be grouped at a just-right-for-them level and will be challenged to build an understanding of word skills.
Students are given differentiated spelling lists through Reading Wonders
Given words on beginning of the week and tested usually on Fridays
Folder, Bag of words, Notebook, Spelling Menu for Homework
After teacher demonstration, students work on problems independently or in small groups with teacher support or enrichment
Students are provided with spiraled practice of skills and concepts and are given plenty of preparation for state testing type problems.
Knowledge of FACTS are very important this year and independent practice at home is encouraged
Word Problems with multi-steps as well as explaining how students came to get their answer
Emphasis on mathematical thinking and application
Students can use ConnectEd for online game practice as well as links on Google Classroom
We will be using Home Links and Math Journal
Students will go out for recess first and then have lunch after.
In social studies, we will focus on New Jersey history/road to the revolution
In science, we follow units of study mapped in relationship to the new NJCCCS
Students explore the areas of Earth, Physical, and Life science and apply to real world situations
