Homework will typically be given on Monday- Thursday. Homework assignments will be outlined in the student's assignment pad.
Reading/Language Arts
Please read with your child for 15-20 minutes each night.
Students will receive a decodable reader to keep at home that reviews the concept of the week as well as red words. During the 15-20 minutes of reading, students should read the decodable reader. Reading the decodable reader aloud each night will help increase fluency and comprehension. If time permits, they can then read a book of their choice.
In addition, each night there will be a reading/spelling worksheet to be completed. The worksheet will be in the "Return to School" side of their homework folder.
Red Words are usually introduced on Tuesday. Red words cannot be sounded out and must be memorized. Each week, the new red words will be sent home for you to practice with your child. You may cut the words into flash cards to be reviewed each night. Students should practice writing as well as reading the red words unless otherwise noted.
Rapid word charts may also be sent home focusing on the spelling concept of the week or red words. Please time your child for 1 minute to see how many words he/she can read correctly on the chart. Keep the charts at home for continued practice and to help build fluency.
Math
Most nights, the students will have a math HomeLink paper related to the day's lesson to complete. Please complete the math Home Link page and tear it out of the HomeLink book and put it in your child's homework folder to be returned to school, along with their HomeLink book. At times, a math worksheet may be assigned in place of a Homelink page. The worksheet will be in the "Return to School" side of the homework folder.
