Reading
Standards
English standards are weaved throughout the entire school year through fiction and nonfiction texts. Standards and skills are taught/reviewed throughout the quarters. Writing is also weaved throughout the school year and taught during reading class and an independent writing block.

Writing Standards (4.7):
Write cohesively for a variety of purposes
identify audience, focus on topic, use pre-writing strategies,organize paragraphs, transition words, utilize elements of style, use topic sentence and details that focus on the main idea
(4.8):
Edit writing for correct grammar, capitalization, spelling, punctuation, and paragraphing
subject-verb agreement, noun-pronoun agreement, prepositional phrases, commas, singular possessives
Reading
The best way to become a better reader is by reading. Students should read at home for 15 to 20 minutes each night and complete the weekly task associated to the reading.
SPELLING
Spelling sorts are given to students weekly for new word learning. They are given two copies for their learning use, one for class one for home practice.
iReady For Reading
All students are given access to an online program to increase reading proficiency. Students complete a differentiate lesson each day.
