Hello! My name is Ms. Taylor, and I’m excited to begin my second year at Boyce Elementary School! Art has always been a passion of mine, and I love helping students discover new ways to express themselves creatively. In the art room, students are encouraged to explore different materials, take creative risks, and push their artistic limits in a positive and supportive environment.
My teaching philosophy centers around building confidence in every student. I believe it is important for children to feel proud of their ideas and confident in their decision-making both in and out of the classroom. Along with creativity, I place a strong emphasis on developing fine motor skills through hands-on projects and artistic exploration. I am passionate about creating a classroom where every child feels successful, inspired, and excited to create.
Outside of the classroom, I enjoy hiking with my dog, creating art, and exploring all that the area has to offer.
Boyce Elementary is a PBIS school with Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports. In the art room there is an incentive program called Secret Artist. This program encourages creativity and participation.
For Pre-K we are focused on basic skills as well as inspiring creative thinking and freedom. There is an emphasis on refining motor skills through activities like, cutting, molding, and painting.
Kindergarten students will learn to identify and use basic art elements such as line, color, and shape. They will explore how artists tell stories and share feelings through their work. The focus will be on creativity, cooperation, and confidence in expressing personal ideas through art.
First graders will expand their understanding of the elements of art and begin to combine them to create meaning in their work. Students will explore a variety of materials and techniques while learning about artists from different times and cultures. Emphasis will be placed on developing observation skills and using art to communicate ideas.
Second grade artists will deepen their understanding of how to plan, create, and reflect on their artwork. They will explore patterns, textures, and forms while strengthening fine motor control and design thinking. Collaboration and appreciation of others’ artwork will be an important part of the learning experience.
Third graders will learn to apply the principles of design such as balance, contrast, and rhythm to create more thoughtful and organized artworks. Students will experiment with new media while exploring art’s role in different cultures and communities. The focus will be on creative problem-solving and thoughtful artistic choices.
Fourth grade artists will explore how art connects to history, culture, and personal identity. They will use critical thinking to analyze artwork and develop their own artistic voice through planned compositions. Students will be encouraged to take creative risks and reflect on how their work communicates meaning.
Fifth graders will refine their technical skills and strengthen their ability to plan, revise, and present their artistic ideas. They will investigate how art influences and reflects the world around them, connecting visual expression to broader cultural and personal themes. The focus will be on preparing for middle school art through independence, craftsmanship, and creative confidence.
Students in multiple disabilities art class engage in creative exploration designed to support communication, expression, and personal achievement. They will experience a variety of textures, colors, and materials that encourage sensory engagement and choice-making. The goal is to celebrate each student’s unique abilities while building confidence, fine motor skills, and joy in the artistic process.ere
