Graduation Requirements

The Iowa Board of Regents Office and the Iowa Department of Education (IDE) have partnered together to provide each Iowa high school with a list of their respective courses that are acceptable toward the Regent Admission Index (RAI). The RAI Core Course List document for Clarke High School which is based on the 2017-2018 Winter data Clarke High School submitted to the IDE.

Students must successfully complete the courses required by the board and Iowa Department of Education in order to graduate.

It is the responsibility of the superintendent to ensure that students complete grades one through twelve and that high school students complete 54 (to begin with the class of 2020) credits prior to graduation. The following credits will be required:

Language Arts 8 credits (2 credits grade 9 level English, 2 credits grade 10 level English, 2 credits grade 11 level English, 1 credit Senior Year English course, 1 elective)

Mathematics 6 credits (All students will complete 6 credits of math during grades 9-12)

Science 6 credits (2 credits grade 9 level science, 2 credits biological science, 2 credits elective)

Social Studies 6 credits (2 U.S. History, 1 Government and 3 electives)

Health 2 credits (1 Personal Health, 1 Family Health)

Physical Education 8 credits

Speech 1 credit

Financial Literacy 1 credit*

Elective Courses 16 credits Senior Portfolio/Project

*Beginning with graduating class of 2021

The required courses of study will be reviewed by the board annually.

Beginning with the class of 2022, graduation requirements for special education students will include successful completion of four years of English, three years of math, three years of social studies, and three years of science.
