English IV

English IV is a weighted, senior level British Literature course. We try our best to cover 2,000 years of literature in two semesters--no easy feat let me tell you. First semester covers early British Literature (approximately 900 A.D. to 1600s) with second semester ending in the modern era (1600s to 20th century). It's not a lie to say that the literature my seniors read is some of the hardest material they will have read in high school, but while it is challenging it is also offers an interesting narrative on the evolution of the English language, the legacy of imperialism, and the impact British literature and culture has had (and continues to have) on American society and pop culture.

In addition, each quarter students are required to choose a work of British literature to read independently and then give a ten minute minimum presentation over their book of choice. The current record for longest book talk is 37 minutes! Students are graded on the criteria below:
