Services Offered:

Book Vending Machine:

Students may purchase books from the vending machine with points earned through PBIS rewards as supplies last.  PBIS points may be exchanged for an Inchy Book Worm token.  The vending machine does not accept cash payments.

Flexible scheduling:

The media specialist creates a library schedule that allows for equitable access for students and staff, in compliance with GaDOE policy and guidelines.  Class visits may be scheduled with ELA, Science, SS or Connections classes.  Students may also visit independently with teacher permission and a written pass.

Volunteers:

Library volunteers may contact Mrs. Moses for the background check packet.  All CCSD volunteers must undergo a background check prior to service.

Reconsideration Policy:

Parents or guardians who have concerns about a particular title in the library collection may call the media specialist, Mrs. Moses, to discuss.  Book reconsideration protocol follows established CCSD policy.

First Amendment policy:

Students have a right to read books of their choosing from our library collection.  A student's freedom to read is supported by the First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America, see Pico v. Island Trees (1982).  Staff members do not have the right to infringe upon this right and all individual student circulation data is confidential.

Deselection policy:

The media specialist reserves the right to remove outdated and inaccurate materials or materials that do not address the curriculum nor engage student interest.  Deselected books are disposed of as per CCSD policy.

Donation policy:

WR Coile library media center accepts limited donations.  We reserve the right to refuse donations that do not fit within our educational and collection based needs.

From the CCSD board of education policy:

FEES OR FINES FOR DAMAGE TO OR LOSS OF SCHOOL PROPERTY

The Clarke County Board of Education retains the right to charge students a reasonable fee for restitution of lost, damaged, or abused school District property, including textbooks, library books or media materials. The Superintendent shall develop and submit to the Board a schedule of fees to be charged.

Students shall be notified in writing of any charges being assigned to them and that failure to pay those charges may result in sanctions such as withholding grade cards, diplomas or certificates of progress until restitution is made. Opportunity shall be given for the student(s) and/or parent(s) to meet with appropriate school officials to discuss any fines levied against the student(s). If a student or parent is unable to pay the levied fees, an affidavit to that effect may be filed with the Superintendent or designee who make arrangements for the student to satisfy the obligation by rendering agreed upon services to the school district.

Intellectual Freedom

WR Coile library supports a student's right to read freely and explore new ideas.  We work hard to provide age-appropriate, high-interest, quality literature for our students that reflect diverse experiences.  If you have a question regarding a specific book, feel free to contact your librarian by filling out the form above.
