Welcome to Clarke Middle School Athletics, Owl Nation!!Β
Students who would like to participate in sports here at CMS need to meet the following requirements:
Must attend Clarke Middle School
Must have a copy of their current Physical, signed by a doctor, uploaded to Rank One (these last one year) / Spanish Version of Physical (ESP)
Must have a completed all required forms on Rank One, including GHSA forms.

Must remain academically eligible (cannot be failing more than one class at Report Card). We use the previous semester's grades from CORE CLASSES (Science, ELA, Math, and Social Studies) to determine eligibility for the next quarter (Ex: Spring Semester Grades from 2025/2026 school year are used to determine eligibility for Fall & Winter Sports)Β
**Grades from FALL 2026 Semester (Quarters 1 & 2) will be used to assess eligibility for Spring Sports in SPRING 2027.
Any student without BOTH of these completed documents (Physical & Parental Consent Form) will NOT be allowed to participate in tryouts, practices, or games.Β
Helpful Tips:Β
If at all possible, please store your child's athletic physical somewhere you can access it as needed.Β This makes it easier for you to have access to it if they need it for any other club sports, high school events, etc.
Physicals remain current for one year from the date of the exam & doctor's signature - many people find it helpful to get their exam done during the summer so that their student has one for the whole school year.

Clarke Central High School will implement a Clear Bag Policy at all sporting events. This policy will be similar to policies in place at college and professional stadiums and coliseums.Β
There will be no entrance into sporting events without an approved bag.Β
The following types of bags are permitted inside of CCHS sporting events: Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12βx6βx12β; One-gallon clear plastic freezer bags; Small clutch bags, with or without a handle or strap, that do not exceed 4.5βx6.5β.Β

*Some sports are CMS based, others are through the Athens Youth Development Initiative.
Sports that 6th graders can tryout for and participate on with 7th and 8th graders:
Girls' Volleyball (Fall)
Cross Country (Fall)
Basketball (Winter) - There will be an "A" Team and a "B" Team this year for both Girls and Boys
Cheer (Winter) - There will be an "A" Team and a "B" Team this year
Soccer (Spring)
Track/Field (Spring)
Sports that 6th graders can tryout for and participate outside of the CMS teams:
Football (6th Graders through the Athens Youth Development Initiative and Gladiator Youth Football., 7th and 8th Graders through the Clarke Central Middle School team)
