Q.) When are auditions?
A.) Auditions for The Wizard of Oz Young Performers Edition are either September 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th from 5:30 PM- 8:00 PM, depending on which day you signed up for.
Q.) How can I sign up for auditions?
A.) There is a sign up link online. Fill out that form and you'll receive your practice materials.
Q.) When are callback auditions?
A.) Callbacks will be Monday, September 8th at 2:45. These will be a little different, so we will email specific instructions to you if your child is called back. Not all students in the final cast will be invited to callbacks. We will email you if your child is called back.
Q.) Can I use my script at auditions?
A.) Yes, but we are much more interested in how you ACT than how you READ. Be very familiar with the script and use your whole body to act. Hiding behind a script will hide your performance.
Q.) Do we have to sing with the karaoke track at auditions, or can we sing a capella?
A.) You must sing with the karaoke track. You can't sing a capella during the show, so you can't sing a capella during the audition.
Q.) Will the karaoke words be displayed during the audition?
A.) Yes, but technology is never perfect. We wouldn't suggest relying on that. You can always use your script if you need the words.
Q.) Can I sing my choice of song at the audition?
A.) You can sing one of the three options on the practice paper. Those are the karaoke tracks we will have pulled up and ready, and we won't have time to find additional tracks.
Q.) Can I audition for a non-singing role?
A.) There are no non-singing roles! Everyone will sing at some point, though not everyone will have a solo. We want to hear you sing!
Q.) Can I choose between the two parts on the audition script?
Yes! An audition panel teacher will read the other part.
Q.) I'm nervous. Should I still audition?
A.) Yes! It's ok, normal, and natural to be nervous. Being nervous means you care about doing a good job. Put on a theatre smile and go for it!
Q.) What should I wear to auditions?
A.) It's up to you! We generally tell people to "dress to impress," as in, be dressed neatly and appropriately to show the audition panel that you are taking it seriously! It is not necessary to dress for a particular role or to fit the "style" of the show.
Q.) Should we go out for ice cream after auditions?
A.) I mean, we can't tell you what to do.... but yes!
