Students will be required to use critical thinking as they explain the periodicity of elements, quantum mechanics, stoichiometry, gasses, aqueous equilibria and thermodynamics in both qualitative and quantitative terms. Emphasis is placed on quantitative analysis of laboratory experiments. This course is intended for students who have a strong math background and who are interested in pursuing medical, engineering or pure science careers. Skills for this course are correlated with those in Pre-Calculus.
Emphasis will be placed on scientific inquiry, quantitative problem solving skills and laboratory experiences. It is essential that the student has a strong mathematical foundation including algebraic manipulation, solving systems of equations, unit conversion, logarithms, and graphing/analysis of data.
Physics
Physics Honors is designed for the student with strong mathematical skills who desires to have some understanding about how the world “works”. The content is geared toward preparing students for possible careers in science, medicine, or technology in addition to those students who would like to understand some everyday phenomena.
This is an introductory physics course covering topics in energy, force, motion, light, sound electricity, and magnetism. Exploration of these topics will also involve hands-on lab work, computer simulations, and research techniques.
About me
Hello, I have been teaching Chemistry and Physics for 23 years. I have taught in 4 different school districts. I taught here at East Clarendon around 2000 and then we moved to Columbia where I taught at Dutch Fork High School. My husband and I have two children, Lani and JT.
