About me

Hello! My name is Melissa Newbury. I will be teaching 8th grade science and HS Physical Science for the 2021-2022 school year here at WRJH. This is my 16th year in education over all. I was a school counselor for the first 12 years and now I teach science which is really so much fun! (Who doesn't love to set things on fire?! )

I was born and raised in a small town in Pennsylvania. I love the mountains and snow, both of which we don't get much of out here!! My family is still there and we get to visit as often as possible.

I went to Wilkes University where I majored in Biology and played softball as a student athlete. I decided that I wanted to do school counseling and chose to move out to Oklahoma State University to pursue my Master's Degree.

OSU is where I met my amazing husband, Dan. He is a Tulsa Fire captain, and also teaches Hazardous Materials classes for OSU. We have two beautiful daughters. Avery is 11 and Kylie is 9. They both go to Justus Tiawah and keep us on our toes for sure!

We are in crazy times right now, but we will be doing our best to make this class as interactive and engaging as possible. I am excited to get to know each of you and get you interested in the world around you!!
