As part of Clackmannanshire Council's 1 to 1 digital device scheme, Chromebooks are being issued to all learners in P4-7 at Craigbank Primary School. These devices will be used to support learning at home, and where infrastructure allows, at school. Chromebooks are available for P5-7 now, and Primary 4 after Christmas.
A Chromebook is a small laptop style device which runs Chrome OS and will help support learning and teaching using digital tools such as Google Workspace for Education ie. Google Docs, Google Classroom and Microsoft Office 365. It has access to Glow and the internet.
How can I apply for a Chromebook?
Prior to Chromebooks being taken home, parents/carers are required to read and sign the agreement online. There is no time limit to fill the form in; all P4-7 pupils are entitled to a Chromebook.
Please read the agreement carefully, as it contains all of the terms and conditions regarding the Chromebook's loan and use. The link to the agreement is here: AGREEMENT LINK
Will my child need their Chromebook during the school day?
Do I need a case or laptop bag?
Unfortunately, we have been unable to secure funding for cases. Pupils can send their Chromebooks in if parents feel they are safe to do so. Children without a Chromebook in school will still be able to use available digital devices. If you have any concerns about this then please contact your class teacher.
How do I login to a Chromebook?
You must use your child's login. This is the start of their regular glow login; e.g. clXX0000 but it ends in cl.glow.scot (not @glow.sch.uk)
The password should be your child's normal GLOW password (not their school laptop login).
Personal gmail accounts cannot be used.
Internet Safety: What can my child see on the internet when using their Chromebook?
There is no internet filter or firewall installed on the Chromebook and therefore no restrictions on browsing when outside of the school network. When connected to your WiFi, it will have the same access to the internet as any other device e.g. your phone. As part of good internet safety, children's use on the internet should be monitored and discussed with them. Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) may provide tools or software to limit some internet use; you should contact them directly.
Extra Google Services - YouTube, Google Maps, Google Earth
If pupils wish to have access to additional services such as YouTube, Google Maps and Google Earth, they require consent to access. Parents will need to complete an additional aggreement form to have these services available. The link to the form is here:

Can I download apps onto the Chromebook?
You cannot download apps onto the Chromebook. There are some extensions that you can add to the Chrome internet browser to support learning. Details of these extensions can be found here: CLICK
What happens when my child leaves Craigbank Primary?
The Chromebook is still the property of the council; the device is on a long-term loan to your child. It will need to be returned at the end of Primary 7 and they will be issued with a new device at High School. If your child leaves Craigbank prior to Primary 7, they will also need to return their Chromebook.
Charging
Chargers should not be brought into school. If you have any concerns about the costs of charging the device, please contact the school office.
