Planning for mathematics is much more complex than selecting materials for centers, identifying homework, and determining where the manipulatives for the lesson are stored. Planning for mathematics should focus on what students will learn and what they will do. It should focus on how students will engage with the mathematics. For many of us, planning for mathematics (or any other content) has been writing down a collection of steps and procedures that identify what we will do. Mathematics is not done to someone. It is done with someone. These planning recommendations are shared with that in mind.
As we put our energy towards specifc standards, we want to also streamline how we present and work with the standards. On this page you will find many useful tools that help with: fluency, vocabulary, routines, review, revisit and asses, games & the standards.
Our main purpose in CK Math is to encourage students to be thinkers and problem solvers. Problem solving is what we do , when we don't know what to do. We want our students leaving CKSD being able to solve problems on their own. In order to do this, we need to foster productive struggle and allow for authentic thinking to happen in our classrooms daily, kindergarten through 12th grade! This page has many tools to help create thinking classrooms where discussion and problem solving is priority. Have fun and allow your students to have fun thinking and persevering!
