Unit 1  States of Matter  (text chapter 6)

Unit 4 Chemical reactions and Equations  (text chapter 9)

9-1 Understanding reactions-What are the signs of a chemical reaction and what happens to atoms?

9-2 Types of Chemical reactions-How can you recognize the type of Chemical reaction by the number or type of reactants and products.

Lab-  Four types of Chemical Reactions –( 5 days)Students complete the equation & identify the reaction

9-3 Energy Changes and Chemical reactions-Why do chemical reactions always involve a change in energy? The difference  between endothermic and endothermic.

Unit 5 Mixtures, Solubility and Acid Base Solutions

Unit 6 Describing motion

1-1- Position and Motion-How does the description of an objects position depend on a reference point.  Difference between distance and displacement

Technology-PhET (interactive simulations)-Forces & Motion Basics to include ,netforce,motion,friction,acceleration

1-2- Speed and Velocity-How to use a distance time graph to calculate speed.

       Lab- Using windup toys to calculate speed

       Math skills *– calculating speed  S=d/t

1-3 Acceleration-The different ways an object can accelerate

       Math skills*- Practice solving word problems on acceleration.

       A=V2-V1/t

       Lab- In what ways can velocity change? Launch lab(text)

Unit 7  The laws of Motion

2-1 Gravity and Friction- How does friction effect motion? The Law of universal  gravitation.

2-2 Newton’s First Law- How does the first law relate to balanced and unbalanced forces (Inertia) and how does it affect the motion of objects.

2-3 Newton’s Second Law- The acceleration of an object is equal to the net force acting on the object divided by the objects mass.
