Welcome to Algebra I!! This year we will start with a review of pre-algebra concpets before moving into higher level algebra objectives including relations, linear equations, and factoring.

real number systems; properties; order of operations; evaluating expressions, matrices, combining like terms and simplifying expressions; translating expressions; two-step equations and inequalities

equations/inequalities

multi-step equations; equations with variables on both sides; different types of solutions; proportions and percents; absolute value and literal equations; word problems; multi-step, compound, and absolute value inequalities

relations/functions

represent relations; domain and range; functions; real world graphs; tables; evaluate functions; zeros of functions; arithmetic sequences

linear equations

slope; slope formula; slope-intercept form; standard form; x- and y-intercepts; horizontal and vertical lines; point-slope formula; parallel and perpendicular lines; word problems

direct variation

direct variation; inverse variation; real world applications

systems of linear equations

graphing, substitution, and elimination methods; word problems; graph linear inequalities; graph systems of linear inequalities

exponents

add, subtract, multiply monomials; power rule, quotient rule, negative exponents; scientific notation; exponential functions; growth and decay applications; geometric sequences; simplify radicals

polynomials/factoring

add and subtract polynomials; multiply monomials by binomials; FOIL, divide polynomials by monomials; factor using GCF, difference of squares, and trinomials; divide polynomials by binomials

quadratic equations

axis of symmetry and vertices; graph quadratic equations; vertex form; transformations to the parent function; roots and number of solutions; solve quadratics by factoring, square roots, completing the square, and the quadratic formula; word problems with projectile motion

radicals

simplify radicals with squares and cube roots; simplify radicals with variables; add, subtract, multiply, and divide radicals; radical equations
