Welcome to 3-2
Third grade is an exciting year of growth, discovery, and becoming more independent learners! Through engaging lessons in Religion, Math, Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies, students strengthen their skills in reading, writing, problem-solving, and critical thinking. Our goal is to create a classroom where every student feels known, supported, and encouraged to take risks, embrace challenges, and grow with confidence. We look forward to partnering with you in making this a wonderful year of learning!
Third Grade Curriculum
Religion: Explore the beauty of faith this year! We'll learn about the human and divine connection, the second coming, the Church calendar, Holy Days, and Church hierarchy. You'll also discover the inspiring lives of the many Saints who guide us.
Math: Build strong math skills throughout the year! We start with Place Value, then move through Addition and Subtraction (with and without regrouping), Multiplication, Division, Fractions, and Measurement. Problem-solving techniques help us tackle real-world word problems with confidence.
Language Arts: Reading, writing, and communication are at the heart of this subject. We use the Amplify curriculum, exploring a new theme each week through Phonics, Grammar, Spelling, and Penmanship. After each theme, students take four quizzes (Comprehension, Grammar, Phonics, and Vocabulary) that together make up the test grade. Weekly spelling words keep skills sharp, and daily writing assignments bring learning to life—from Personal Narratives and Descriptive Paragraphs to Poems, Comic Strips, and Creative Stories.
Science: Science is a core subject in third grade! Throughout the year we discover Weather, Habitats and Characteristics, Force, Motion, Matter, and Energy. Students complete outlines, define vocabulary, and show their learning through quizzes and chapter tests.
Social Studies: Social Studies is a full-time subject where we explore our country's story. We'll learn about the beginning of our nation, Communities, Early Settlements, the Constitution, and Courts. We also develop geographical skills—reading maps, understanding landforms, identifying resources, and exploring regional features. Along the way, we'll celebrate famous inventors, leaders, and heroes who shaped our world. Students complete outlines, define vocabulary, and take quizzes and chapter tests to demonstrate understanding.
