Our Purpose

The Wellness Center is  a safe space where our students can come in and learn to manage their emotions, destress, learn new coping skills, or talk to someone if needed in order to be able to go back to class and be more focused on learning. This site space was created for Slover Mountain High School students, faculty and families in an effort to  provide them with helpful  resources  and one-on-one supports that promote wellness and resiliency so that our community receives a fair chance at life and learning.

Mental Health

Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make healthy choices.

Events

Our Wellness Center hosts activities and workshops for students to promote resiliency, teach coping skills, and provide students with healthy outlets for feelings and emotions.

The Wellness Center hosts activities, such as Wellness Fairs, positive affirmations workshops, slime making, and rock painting.

How To Receive Services

To receive services, students may walk in to the Wellness Center where the Wellness Center Coordinator can assist students in learning coping skills, communicating feelings, and assessing for possible needs. Additionally, teachers and staff members can send students into the Wellness Center whenever they feel a student may need additional support, is having a tough time getting through the day, or the student needs a mental health break.

Confidentiality

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974 is a federal law establishing an array of confidentiality rights for students and families. This law is required to be upheld by all school employees. Students who engage with the wellness center have a right to confidentiality. The documents generated when a student engages DO NOT become part of the students educational record and is maintained by the clinician in compliance with FERPA.
