Growth Mindset

OUR BRAIN ACTS LIKE A MUSCLE - THE MORE WE USE IT, THE STRONGER (AND SMARTER) THE BRAIN BECOMES.

A person with a growth mindset may do these things:

  • embrace challenges
  • give their best effort
  • learn from feedback
  • become inspired by other people's successes
  • believe their intelligence can change if they work hard
  • persevere when frustrated
  • believe there is always room for improvement
  • understand that effort and attitude make all the difference
  • understand that mistakes help learning
  • believe that learning is possible

In our classroom we believe:

  • "I am not AFRAID of a CHALLENGE!"
  • "I can TRAIN my BRAIN to do it!"
  • "I can't do it YET... With EFFORT I can!"
  • "My MISTAKES help me GROW!"

In our classroom we will change our words to change our mindset!

  • Instead of thinking "I am not good at this. " Try thinking "What am i missing? "
  • Instead of thinking "I can't do this." Try thinking "I'm going to train my brain."
  • Instead of thinking "I give up." Try thinking "I'll try a different strategy."
  • Instead of thinking "It's good enough." Try thinking "Is this really my best work?"
  • Instead of thinking "I can't make this better." Try thinking "I can always improve; I'll keep trying"
  • Instead of thinking "This is too hard." Try thinking "This may take some time and effort."
  • Instead of thinking "I made a mistake." Try thinking "Mistakes help me learn."
  • Instead of thinking "I will never be that smart." Try thinking "I will learn how to do this or I am going to figure out what he / she does and try it"
  • Instead of thinking "I can't do math." Try thinking "I am going to train my brain in math."
  • Instead of thinking "I am awesome at this!" Try thinking "I am on the right track."

YOUR BRAIN IS LIKE A MUSCLE... YOUR BRAIN GETS STRONGER WITH YOU EMBRACE CHALLENGES!

YET

By: Heidi Harrell

There are so many things you want to know,

So many ways you want to grow,

There are so many things you want to be,

So many milestones you want to see.

You will get there if you never forget

The superpower of the word YET!

When you first tried to talk, you were hard to understand,

When you first tried to eat, you needed a hand.

When you first tried to walk, you fell and fell,

When you first tried to run, it didn’t go well.

But your baby self knew something we often forget

The superpower of the word YET!

Somehow you knew that if you kept trying

Your chances of success would keep multiplying.

The same is true with every risk you take,

You just have to learn from every mistake.

Where you put your effort, the goal will be met

As long as you remember the superpower of YET!

*There is a difference between not knowing and not knowing YET.*
