A Florida animal kennel operator was arrested this week after 11 dead puppies were discovered inside trash cans on the property, local authorities said. Several puppies from the kennel died of the highly contagious canine parvovirus within days of being sold, according to police. While at the kennel, 11 dead puppies were found improperly disposed of in garbage cans on the property, police said.
Eight puppies — all with signs of the parvovirus — were seized from the property and brought to local veterinarians for treatment, cops said. The remaining dogs on the property — about 138 — were left in the care of kennel staff. Ortiz Mendez, 34, was arrested and charged with 11 counts of aggravated animal cruelty and one misdemeanor count of animal neglect, stemming from a lack of water for kenneled dogs, the sheriff’s office said.

The brute accused of knocking a beloved Brooklyn cat out of a tree so his two dogs could maul it to death has been arrested, the NYPD said Monday. Fulton Gordon, 28, was cuffed Monday at around 3:30 pm inside NYCHA’s Breukelen Houses and charged with torturing, injuring, or not feeding an animal, a misdemeanor crime, the NYPD said.
On Jan. 13 2021, Gordon was seen using a stick to knock the cat, a chunky black and white feline named Tuxedo, out of a tree and then sitting idly by as two pit bulls mauled him to death. Tuxedo was part of a managed feral colony and was dubbed the “mayor” of the complex for his friendly personality — he was known to hang out with residents as they worked on their cars in the parking lot and even had a best friend and a girlfriend.

Thami Stafyleras, 44, is accused of ditching the 17-week-old Pomsky named Louie in a dumpster at Captree State Park in Babylon last Monday, according to cops. Stafyleras, of Mineola, was supposed to be caring for the pooch for an acquaintance from Huntington Station who was out of town, police said.
Louie was found inside the dumpster by a 59-year-old woman. She reported the incident to police and took the dog to an animal hospital, authorities said. The puppy is in good health and will be returned to its owner. Stafyleras was charged with the abandonment of an animal.
