Based on the information I managed to gather from my grandfather Felipe Tzul, I was able to gain more knowledge of the Mayas inhabiting Belize before the Caste War took place. I was able to know more about the way the Mayas reached to our country. In addition, I also got to know that my Village, Patchakan was considered a center for the Maya plannings and uprisings. The Caste War was a long battle between the Mayas and the the European descendants. The Maya fought to protect and gain back their communal lands but were not successful. According to Mr. Tzul the Mayas were very close to defeating the British but due to their widespread in the plantations they were at a huge disadvantage of giving battle to the British. Knowing now that the Mayas were powerful men who didn't give up, the country of Belize has managed to be who it is in todays' day and gained its full independence due to this different forms of resistance. Through their revolts they managed to survive and have some of their descendants to still be alive. Gladly, we still have Maya descendants inhabiting our country with honor.
