Musical Director
The Civic Orchestra of Baton Rouge is under the musical direction of Brian Scott, DMA.
Dr. Brian R. Scott is a music educator and brass specialist currently living and working in the Baton Rouge area after spending over a decade as a high school orchestra director and band director just outside of Kansas City. He earned both his bachelor’s degree in music education and his master’s degree in instrumental conducting with secondary emphasis in music performance from the University of Southern Mississippi, and he earned his doctorate in music performance with secondary emphasis in conducting from the Conservatory of Music and Dance at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
Before moving to Louisiana in the summer of 2021, Dr. Scott spent fourteen years actively performing around Kansas City and its suburbs on trumpet, euphonium, and trombone; and he spent many years performing and competing both nationally and internationally with the award-winning Fountain City Brass Band of Kansas City on tenor and baritone horns. While pursuing his doctorate he was a semi-finalist in the International Tuba Euphonium Association’s quartet competition in 2008 and euphonium soloist competition in 2010. He also won the North American Brass Band Association’s Low Brass-Technical competition in 2010. As an arranger he enjoys creating custom works for chamber ensembles, orchestras, and marching bands, and his low-brass ensemble arrangements have been performed at regional, national, and international music festivals.
