2021-2022 Syllabus for 7th Grade Math

Mrs. Carroll

Welcome to 7th grade! We have a lot to do this year. I will expect great things from you. I will be available to help you if you need it so just ask. You are responsible for your own supplies, assignments, chrome book, tests, make-up work, grades, as well as anything else we do in this class. You are expected to be on time and ready to learn every day.

Starters

When you enter class you are to be prepared. You will need to take a bathroom break in between classes. There will be an assignment given to you everyday. Upon entering the classroom, sharpen your pencil and have all of your math supplies at your desk ready to go. Always make sure you have your chrome book and it is fully charged. Read the board for daily instructions.

Grades

Your grades will consist of quizzes, homework, and daily work at 45% and tests and major projects at 55%.You will have a minimum of 8 daily grades and 2 unit tests.

If you are in honors math, your grades will consist of quizzes, homework, and daily work at 40% and tests and major projects at 60%. You will have a minimum of 8 daily grades and 2 unit tests.

Supplies

You must write in pencil for this class. If you use a pen on your math assignments/tests, please be prepared to redo it. In addition to pencils, you will also need the following: one composition notebook (not a spiral), colored pens, 4 glue sticks, homework folder, 4 expo markers and a pencil pouch.

*Most of these supplies can be used in your other classes except for the composition notebook, 4 expo markers, and the 4 glue sticks. These three items are for math class only.

As you use or misplace your school supplies, please bring more from home.

Homework

Homework will be given on most days during the week. Occasionally we will have homework on Friday. I will post homework on Google Classroom. I will spend class time showing students where to find homework on Google Classroom. Students will also have an ebook which is an electronic copy of their paper textbook. I will show students how to access this as well.

Make-up Work

Make-up work is your responsibility. There is a black binder on the shelves near the pencil sharpeners. There is an assignment sheet for each class. Find the day/days that you missed and get your work out of the colored folder. It is your responsibility. I will not ask you for make-up work. You will have one day plus the number of days you were absent to get your makeup work completed and turned in. If you need help with your work, please attend tutorials during breakfast or after school. If you miss a test that you know about, be prepared to take the test when you return. If you return to school on the day a test is scheduled and you have missed important information, you will be given the opportunity for remediation during the tutorial period before taking the test. Make-up tests will be given during tutorials. Do not come to class asking me if you missed something. This is math, of course you missed something.

Failing Grades

If a student fails a test or an assignment, the student can earn the right to retest or correct an assignment by attending a tutorial session with the teacher for content review. Tutorials for junior high are during breakfast and after school. All tests will be given during breakfast or after school as to not disrupt the regular class schedule. The maximum grade on a corrected assignment/test is a 70. There will be no extra credit for this class. A student has three days from the time they receive the graded assignment to complete any tutoring and corrections for a higher grade. A student has one opportunity to make corrections and cannot continue to turn in work repeatedly for a higher grade.

Rules

You are expected to follow all rules listed in the student handbook. You can access the student handbook by going to the City View website. They will be strictly enforced in this classroom. Respect is the most important. Respect for your classmates, yourself and me. You are responsible for your own behavior. Tardiness will not be tolerated. Rules for this class are as follow:

  1. Be Ready

  1. Be Responsible

  1. Be Respectful

Benefits of Rules

  1. We will have a safe and productive learning environment.

  2. We can use our time to the best advantage for learning.

  3. We can incorporate more hands-on activities that are interesting and valuable.

Behavior Management Plan

Verbal warning will be given then the following plan is in place.

2nd Occurrence-Behavior noted on discipline form and sent home with student, parent contacted, and the student serves detention

Tutorials

Tutorials are Monday-Friday during breakfast and after school from 3:45-4:00.

Progress Reports

Progress reports go out at three weeks to every student and then at six weeks students will receive their report card.

Cell Phones

Cell phones are to be turned off when the school day begins and remain off until the school day ends. The only exception to this rule would be if the teacher gives the student permission to use the phone for an activity. If a phone rings, vibrates, makes a noise, or a student is caught using it, the phone will be picked up and turned into the office. Parents must pick up the phone and pay a $15 fine in the front office.

7th Grade Late Work Policy

2 Days Late-Maximum 50 points off the original grade

3 Days Late-the grade becomes a 0 at the end of the third day
