Meet our Culinary Arts instructor,

Mr. Killeen!

James is a senior in our Cooperative Education program. After completing 70% of the classroom curriculum, he was able to get a job at Terry's Italian Restaurant.

Katie loves to cook and bake. She wants to pursue a career as a baker!

Our Culinary Arts program caters school events like breakfasts, luncheons, and banquets. Catering an event is a big job and great practice for the culinary industry!



Learn how a commercial kitchen operates, cater events, and compete in cooking competitions! There is always something exciting going on in the Culinary Arts classroom!




Recommended Academic Levels

Reading: 9th-12th grade, depending on career pathway

Math: fractions & decimals, money skills, food costing skills require higher level math

Recommended Academic Courses

On Level English or higher

On Level Math or higher (proficiency in Algebra recommended for food costing applications)

Recommended Aptitudes

  • Endure walking/standing for 2+ hours

  • Work under pressure

  • Independent work habits

  • Follow step by step directions

  • Math and measurement skills

  • Understand and follow written and oral directions

Career Pathways

  • Cook/Prep Cook

  • Waiter/Waitress

  • Food Service Specialist

  • Baker

  • Butcher

  • Line Chef (college degree preferred, can be achieved with industry experience)

  • Sous Chef (college degree preferred, can be achieved with industry experience)

  • Kitchen Manager (college degree preferred can be achieved with industry experience)

  • Executive Chef (2 or 4 year college degree and significant (10+ years) of industry experience

  • Nutritionist (4 year college degree, many go on to advanced degree, requires state certifications)
