CIT Student Built House Project

We broke ground at 548 Toboggan Trail in September 2017. Over the course of the 17-18 school year, our students built the house from the ground up. They worked together to lay the foundation, frame and roof the house, install plumbing and electrical systems, and began work on the exterior.

The 2018-2019 fall and winter seasons brought some challenges with the onslaught of rain and snow that just wouldn't stop. We pushed forward, installing the sidewalk, gutters, and completing the brick exterior.

The three bedroom, two bath house has a two car garage, central air, and forced air heat. The interior has a large greatroom with a gas fireplace, oak hardwood floors, tile floors, granite countertops and a breakfast bar.

Student Voices

Omar McDonald

Omar is a 12th grade Easton student in the Masonry program. For Omar, the best part of the house project has been pouring the concrete in the basement. He enjoyed the early morning, quick-paced hard work where everyone had to work together.

Niki Reyna

Niki is an 11th grade Bangor student in the Building Construction program. Niki loves the finishing work, like siding, flooring, and spackling. She plans on joining the National Guard after high school.

DJ Lasher

DJ is an 11th grade Bangor student in the HVR & P program. DJ's favorite part of the house project was the waste drainage line. He said he liked being able to see the work being done, rather than something that's hidden in the walls of the home.

Cody Danner

Cody is a Pen Argyl senior in the Building Construction program. He says the most challenging part of the project was the dangerous job of putting in the floor joists. Learning how to install hardwood flooring has been his favorite part.

Matt Fehr

Matt is a 12th grade Easton student in the Building and Property Maintenance program. He loved using the jackhammer to dig up the ditch for the drainage pipes.

Jonathan Wilson

Jonathan is a 12th grade Wilson student in the Electrical Construction program. He loves being able to apply what he's learned in the lab to the different electrical jobs at the house project.
