Events in Mount Gede
Gepang Ultra Marathon” was held on 25 and 26 June 2022 at the Selabintana National Park Management Resort (RPTN) which was attended by participants from all over the world. Apart from coming from their homeland, participants also came from Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, Austria, France and Japan. This is an annual event that is regularly held on the Mount Gede and Pangrango climbing routes.
Mount Gede Pangrango Clean Action involves the nature lover community and the Indonesian Mountain Guides Association (APGI). Around 10 nature lover communities will climb and clean up plastic waste left behind in the Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park area. The waste collected from this activity will later be managed and entered into the Danone-AQUA recycling ecosystem.
The tree adoption program on Mount Gede Pangrango has actually been carried out since mid-2008. In this program, everyone, on behalf of individuals or organizations, can participate in environmental conservation by adopting a tree
The Tree Adoption Program is managed by the GEDEPAHALA Consortium (Gede Pangrango Halimun Salak). This consortium consists of Conservation International Indonesia, Gunung Gede Pangrango NP and Gunung Halimun Salak NP, local NGOs and local community groups.
During the observations, A-type earthquakes with clear P and S-waves were observed at Gede volcano. The eruption on 13th March 1957 followed a roar from the volcano. An ash plume reached 3km high above the volcano.
The existence of Mount Gede Pangrango is not only recorded in many Dutch documents. Gede Pangrango has been present in the ancient manuscript, Bujangga Manik from the 15th century.
In the manuscript, the Hindu traveler from Pakuan Padjadjaran, Bujangga Manik, tells that the ancient Sundanese people considered Gede Pangrango to be a sacred and sacred place. As a result, people around Pakuan know Gede Pangrango as Bukit Agueng, which means "Big Hill."
In the past, Mount Gede was called "Bukit Agueng," and it was considered very sacred to the native Indonesian people.
