The Teacher Certificate Program is an academic program offered by the College of Teacher Education at the Caraga Institute of Technology, a CHED-recognized higher education institution based in Kitcharao, Agusan del Norte. This program is designed for individuals who hold a bachelor’s degree in a non-education field but wish to pursue a career in teaching.
Through this program, students will complete 18 units of professional education subjects, which is the minimum requirement set by the Professional Regulation Commission to qualify for the Licensure Examination for Teachers.
The implementation of the TCP is grounded on the following national policies and regulations:
Republic Act No. 7836 (Philippine Teachers Professionalization Act of 1994). An act to strengthen the regulation and supervision of the practice of teaching in the Philippines and prescribe the licensure examination for teachers.
Republic Act No. 9293. An amendment to RA 7836 that allows non-education graduates to qualify for the LET upon completion of at least 18 units of professional education subjects.
CHED Memorandum Order (CMO) No. 30, s. 2004. Policies and Standards for the Undergraduate Teacher Education Curriculum, which also provides the framework for identifying professional education courses.
Professional Regulatory Board for Professional Teachers PRC No. 24, s2022. Updated curriculum and subject list as mandated by the PRC and the Board of Professional Teachers (e.g., list of 18-unit requirements for LET eligibility).
The TCP is a fully online certificate 18-unit program under the College of Teacher Education delivered over a 6-month term or 1 semester through flexible scheduling and a blend of synchronous and asynchronous learning modes. The program caters to adult learners seeking to enter the teaching profession.
The TCP aims to:
Provide non-education graduates with foundational teaching knowledge and skills.
Ensure alignment with PRC and CHED requirements for professional education units.
Apply pedagogical and andragogical principles tailored for adult learners, including self-paced study, experiential learning, and professional relevance.
Promote ethical, learner-centered, and reflective teaching practices.
Support digital fluency and readiness for the 21st-century classroom.
Help learners prepare for and pass the Licensure Examination for Teachers by providing LET-type questionnaires, curated reviewers, and subject-aligned lessons focused on exam readiness.
