Managing your children's devices can feel completely overwhelming. Especially when you start to count just how many devices your child has access to. Here are a few tips to help you organize, systematize and feel better informed when it comes to managing the 'things'.
Physical Management
Physical management includes all things physical, the charging cables and cords, screen protectors and protective cases. It also takes into account where the devices "lives".
Younger children should charge their devices outside of their bedroom. Gradually allow children to move charging to their bedroom but only if clear and consistent boundaries are setup so your child is getting enough sleep. Think about where gaming systems and smart TVs live, whether it's a bedroom or a common area like a family room.
If your child receives a device from their school, make note of the components your child has received. For example, power cord, power brick, case, protective cover, etc...If the components are not labeled as property of the school district, it's a great idea to label them. Power cords and chargers all start to look alike!
Use Management/Parental Controls
Parents have lots of options when it comes to managing your child's use of their devices.
Both Android and Apple cell phones have parent control settings that allow you to limit time spent using an app, set bedtime hours and app download/purchase controls.

There are also services that you can subscribe to for parental controls and device oversight. Searching the internet for parent controls or device management will bring up multiple options so you can find the service that best fits your goals.
Regardless of how you choose to manage devices and their use with your children, have open and clear communication with set guidelines.
