Make sure to pay extra attention while you are on the Circumvesuviana Train. This train is notorious for rampant pickpocketing and unfortunately it still occurs. Here are some quick tips for securing your valuables while traveling:
- Leave your passport at home
- If you must travel with it, make sure that it is secure inside your backpack or within a money belt strapped to you
- Keep your wallet in your front pocket.
- Make sure that your purse is closed, zipped and in front of you.
- Stay vigilant of people close by.

- If you are hurt or there was any violence involved, please call the emergency phone. If there was no violence involved you can send us an email to let us know what happened.
- Cancel any credit or debit cards that were taken.

- They usually have English speaking translators available.
- Notify the American Consolate in Naples as they often receive lost IDs, wallets, etc.
- Your family’s homeowners insurance may cover the cost of some stolen items. Check with them, but remember that you’ll need the police report to state exactly what items were taken.
- If your passport has been stolen you will need to bring 2 2x2 inch (5x5cm) photographs, a copy of the police report and a photocopy of your passport to the US Consulate. A replacement passport will cost between 70-100€.
