The Board of The Association of Independent Schools of NSW established the New South Wales Combined Independent Schools Sports Council (CIS) in 1995 for the purpose of providing independent school students and staff with the opportunity to participate in State and National school sporting activities previously only available to those in State schools. At the end of 2017 CIS became a company, a stand alone entity, with the schools becoming the members of the council. A Board of Directors was elected and to guide CIS into the future.
The model chosen for this Council was designed to assist both existing and new Sporting Associations of schools to work together to achieve this objective. To access the activities of the CIS, a student must first ne a member of an existing independent school. The school needs to be a member of CIS and affiliated to one of the Eligible Sporting Associations.
