Math Ninja Club

Description- Teacher and student-led math support groups aimed to engage students in practicing their skills and revising content related to curriculum. This is considered a Service as Action project. Student leaders organize activities and present at assemblies.

Science Club

Description- The main aim of the Science club is to develop students' interest in science and technology and learn about all scopes of science from medicine to chemistry to physics to the environment. It provides students with opportunities to participate in exciting hands-on and challenging Science-related activities, which gets them to think critically, collaborate with their peers and think of creative ways to problem-solve.

Investment Club

Description- Students will learn about investing in stocks, bonds, mutual funds and crypto. They will participate in a simulated investment competition (non-competitive) where they will try to grow a virtual $100 000 portfolio. Savings, planning, debt and compound interest will also be discussed.

Lego Robotics

Teachers- Rob Afonso

Description- We will create innovative robots using Lego to solve real-life problems using automated solutions. The real-life situation will be taken from the First Lego League competition. This is an official Lego competition that runs at a national level. Last year more than 200 teams in Singapore took part (CIS won an award!). We will be hosting the Singapore competition in March/April next year, and we will be working towards building and coding a robot that will give us a strong performance as the home team! There will be a maximum of three teams of 5. Students have to commit to attending once a week every week until the competition.

The Print- School Newspaper

Description- For the students, by the students - CIS's student-led newspaper. Core group meets every week and is welcoming new members. Occasional contributors also submit articles via our email. theprint@cis.edu.sg

Worlds Schools Debate Championship

Description- 14 of our strongest debaters will engage in this seven week tournament against the top schools in Singapore, Korea, China, and the region of Oceania.

Description- During Term 2, we'll open up debate for new debaters. Top debaters will filter into selective competitions. All debaters will be welcome to join WSC in January and participate in the Singapore Round in Feb/March (see below)

KIVA Club

DELF Prep Courses

Secondary Yoga Club

3D Paper Craft

Description- 3D Papercraft may sound intimidating but it is a great way to bring artwork to life! Create a fun and unique piece of art by cutting, folding and assembling 3D paper models which can be built solo or as part of a group. A little patience is all that is needed. An excellent opportunity for some creativity, collaboration, curiosity and mindfulness at the end of a busy day. (Gr. 10-12) Please pop by EW503 for more information. Huskies Service Council

Spanish Dance Club

Description- Sevillanas dancing lessons aimed at CIS students and teachers (male and female) who wish to learn the basic steps of this traditional Spanish dance. We strive put together a small performance to share with our school community during Languages Week (May 2023). Students can join this club at any time during the year.

Chinese Radio Club

Description- The CIS Chinese Radio Club (The Light of Maple Leaf-《枫光无线校园广播电台》 aims to provide a platform for the students who are interested in radio broadcasting and are willing to showcase their talent in different areas. Student Animal Welfare Committee

Description- Student-led initiative to spread awareness of animal welfare in Singapore.

CIS Business Simulation Club

Teachers- Jason Marchant

Description- In teams of 3, students from grades 9-12 compete in an online business simulation game using the Revas platform. The team operate in a single closed market, making decisions about sales forecasts, HR and recruitment, products and pricing and more. The game progresses through numerous rounds, with the scope of decision-making expanding each time.

Knitting for Nepal

Description- Knitting hats for students to bring to the villages during the school's excursion trip to Nepal. Max capacity:20. Open to G9 to 12.

Spanish Advanced Reading Club

Description- Reading for students aiming to expand their vocabulary and comprehension. Aimed for students in Spanish Phases 4/5 and Spanish B students. The reading will be done in group, the teacher will guide and support the progress.

Spanish Fun Reading Club

Description- Reading for fun independently or in small groups. The students will choose a level adequate reading material and the teacher will support with vocabulary or grammar explanations. Open to any student in Phases 1 to 3 willing to increase their vocabulary and strengthen their comprehension.

Photography Club

Description- This club focuses on taking fine photographic shots and participating in photographic competitions. Students will also learn many of the technicalities involved in digital photography.

The aim of the club is to promote photographic interest within the school community and provide a place for everyone to meet and exchange ideas and share experiences.

Anyone with an interest in photography is more than welcome to join, regardless of their experience.

Food Bank

Time- Once to twice a month, 4:00-5:30

Description- Open to students in grades 9-12. Max 10 students per visit (in first semester as the warehouse is undergoing renovation). We are planning on offering an organized Food Bank volunteering experience where students would take a school bus from CIS to the Food Bank once or twice a month to volunteer in the warehouse. Students would need to sign up for a minimum of 4 sessions in order to fulfill a SA/CAS Service commitment. Whilst this will be teacher led (esp at the start) we hope to eventually develop student leaders who will organize the visits in the 2nd half of the year (still with teacher chaperone) as well as liase with the Food Bank on any related advocacy projects. In connection with the humanitarian subcommittee of the Huskies Service Council. Note - students would have a permission form signed in order to participate in this off campus experience.

Model United Nations

Sr. MUN (G.9-12) : Tuesday SMART

Description- Currently CIS has two MUN teams. The Jr. team consists of Grade 7 and 8 students while the Sr. team consists of students in Grades 9 through 12. MUN consists of writing speeches, researching global issues, problem-solving, collaborating and public speaking. Teams meet once a week at SMART to prepare for upcoming conferences. There are several MUN conferences around Singapore at various international schools that our teams are invited to. Students who sign up for MUN are highly encouraged to participate in these conferences to gain new skills and make new friends. Conferences typically take place over the course of a weekend and students would be responsible for their own transportation to and from the conference.

Student Council

Description- Student Council has an executive team, two representatives from each grade, and four committees (arts, social, student life, and sports. They initiate and organize events for all secondary students.

Green Machine

Description- Our initial goal/ focus is to continue maintaining and to further enhance the beautiful flowers, fruits and vegetables on the 4th floor garden. It's time to head on outdoors, get your hands dirty and start planting! We will also be engaging in other strands/ mini “projects” such as the mangrove workshop, carbon offsetting project, sustainability art movement, etc

Description- Working with the Student Life committee of the student council, we will brainstorm ways to meaningfully orient new students, provide student ambassadors for school events, and eventually run smaller leadership/steward workshops.

Baking Club

Description- This comes out of Languages Week last year, when we made quiches, meringues and crepes. A small group of G.8 students have manifested their interest in carrying it forward this year. It could be opened to a maximum of 10 people. Dishes prepared are ; Chocolate chip cookies, Rice Krispies treats, Mochi, Mini Pretzel, No bake biscoff cheesecake, Sigara borek, macaroons (on non-rainy days!), chocolate mousse.

Ceramic Style

Teachers- Lizz Rossi

Time- Season 2 and 3

Description- MYP & DP students learn a variety of clay techniques and acquire a range of skills to create an assortment of ceramic designs. The clay and glazes used in this CCA are recycled from the Visual Arts’ units. The ceramic items are then sold at CIS events and the money collected is then donated to First Hand, a Singapore-based organization dedicated to helping children and families in Cambodia.

Extra Art

Description- Open to G9-12 Art students who are invited to work in the art rooms on their coursework.

Memory Project

Description- MYP & DP students create portraits for youth around the world who have faced various challenges. They learn portraiture drawing skills and techniques to develop their artwork, which will be hand delivered to them as special keepsakes.

Crafts for Cambodia

Description- Students participate in making crafts for Cambodia, that will be sold at various school events. The money raised will go towards our Cambodia school building fund.

Magic: The Gathering Club

Description- The goal of this ECA is to create a space where competitive and strategic students can make friends, get involved in a community, and develop their skills through Magic: the Gathering, the world's first trading card game.

Math Olympiad

Description- The Math Olympiad class provides intensive lessons for Gr7-10 students who would like to participate in SASMO in April.

Math Circles

Description- This enrichment activity will provide students with a unique opportunity to develop both problem-solving and communication skills in Mathematics. These fun, engaging contests will inspire creative problem solving skills as students tackle problems that build to a larger, more complex problem to solve in each question. Students in Grades 10 and 11 are eligible to write the "Galois and the Hypatia Contests" that are conducted by the Canadian Centre for Education in Computing and Mathematics at the University of Waterloo.
