Going Further stage of PYPx, I made sense of my research by creating and justifying my central idea, researching about people/organizations taking action and I was able to find a Filipino man, Efren Penaflorida who has the same drive as me. I brainstormed different ways to take actions, with the help of my mentors, I created action plans and checked if my plan counts as "sustainable action" and revised my plan as needed. I actually took action and documented the process on my D&D Book Club with my classmates in Grade 5, I got feedback from others on the effectiveness of my action, etc.
My Influential Person Poster
My influential person is Efren Penaflorida. He has made a pushcart classroom where he gets books and foods and brings along other classroom necessities. He goes to poor areas to teach less privileged kids. He is an inquirer, open-minded and balanced. He is smart and caring because he cares about the learning of others.
I believe that everyone should be able to have the same chance of reading. I value equality no matter what their race or gender.
He inspired me to create a book club and help less privileged kids. I have been reading along with my classmates and I have made a book club named D & D Book Club.
I took action to change others' behavior by motivating them to read. I wanted to do this so that they could enjoy reading and have the same joy for reading as me.
My original plan was to make a book club with the local kids. I was able to plan everything out and contact the people that could help but I had to go to another country so I decided to do a book club where my classmates and I could read together. Besides the D & D Book Club in class, I have also been doing book exchanges with my friend mostly Percy Jackson during our free time.
Finally, I did not have time to complete it during PYPx but I am planning to also do a story a read aloud to the Early Years classes.
My actions could be considered sustainable because I encourage others to make book suggestions and lead the book club meetings. This way, even if I am not around, the book club can continue on. I hope this will encourage them to book exchange with others.
It is effective because when I'm not there they can still keep doing the book clubs and book exchanges. In addition, I also received some positive feedback from my classmates as they shared how they would like to keep on reading, others volunteered to read aloud, and many of them were really engaged during our story reading.
