On March 13, students travelled to Xiaoshan to take a tour of the GAC factory. GAC has become a growing leader in the production of electric vehicles in China. Through a guided tour at the factory, students gained insight into recent developments in electric vehicle technology, including manufacturing principles and technological applications. Students were all impressed by the large scale, modern automobile production, and the robots that assemble vehicles so efficiently. A Q&A session gave our students a chance to further interact with factory engineers and deepen their understanding of the advantages and future development trends of new EVs.
Colin, Ashley, and Moses were featured in a recent episode of the Empathy to Impact podcast. They discussed their film Lying Dead, which was chosen as the best overall film in this year's Green is Gold Film Festival. They share some interesting thoughts on the importance of considering the downsides of electric vehicle production, and they talk about the challenges of making a compelling film. A huge new twist was added to this year's culminating event, The Green is Gold Film Festival. The school rented an entire IMAX screen at a local cinema for the entire afternoon. Students were delighted to watch their short films on the big screen and celebrate their achievements as they ate popcorn. The films spanned several genres and took the audience through a wide variety of emotions. Everyone completed scorecards to vote for their choice of films to be featured in our final film festival during parent weekend.
On March 29, students travelled by bus to Changxing to tour the factory and speak to some Geely representatives about the process of constructing electric vehicles. Upon arrival, CIS was welcomed with an introduction to the company, then split into two groups for a tour, complete with hard hats and earpieces to hear the tour guide over the loud factory noises. Students enjoyed seeing first hand the process of assembling an electric vehicle and were fascinated by the robots all around. At the end, there was a student-led Q&A with Mr. Song, a Geely official relating to the “Green is Gold” Collaboration inquiry. It was exciting to speak with an authentic primary source on the topic in order to learn more about EVs. What a great day for HZ10!
