Reading books is a great way to practice language and articulation skills. For language, read a book with your child and ask them “wh” questions about what they are reading. Consider reading either one chapter at a time or one paragraph and then ask the questions. For articulation, read a book together and listen for words with your child’s target sounds. Make sure they are producing these words correctly.
Watch short videos (such as Simon’s Cat on YouTube) together. Have your child identify the different characters and retell what happened, using whole sentences.
Many board games and card games work on valuable language skills like turn-taking, using complete sentences, describing, comparing/contrasting, perspective taking and more. Games such as Apples to Apples, Guess Who, Hedbanz, Uno, Catch Phrase are all good choices. They are also useful for articulation skills. Have your child say a word with their target sound 5 times before taking their turn. Have them also put these words into sentences.
Spend 5 minutes a day practicing words with your child’s target sounds.
