These phonics readers are very helpful for your student to read because they practice skills I teach the students in class. Unfortunately, we do not have enough books for each student to take one home, so the best way to have your student read these is online.

There are two different Nonsense Word documents below. The first one is CVC nonsense words. The second one has more challenging word types that are reflective of the DIBELS reading assessment. Have your student read only 2-3 lines of nonsense words a night. This counts for the reading log.

Fluency is reading at a good speed without sounding out every word or making mistakes. One great way to help your student become a more fluent reader is for them to complete multiple reads of the same short text. Use this document below to track your student's fluency. Phonemic Segmentation is an important foundational skill. You can use these three lists to help your student at home. Have them say the sounds of each word. In class we tap each sound on our arm.
