Abstract. The implementation of corporate governance principles in state-owned entities demonstrates how these entities influence the entire sector in which they operate: right or wrong investments can generate gains and losses to the state budget through the need to inject capital into unprofitable activities. These entities pursue the public interest, being influenced by political opinion and different interest groups. The objective of the project was to investigate, analyze and report on corporate governance and non-financial reporting practices for a sample of state-owned entities in Romania, as well as to build models for optimizing the corporate governance system based on international recommendations and good practices.
