Graduation for the Class of 2020—One Like No Other

Seniors at Churchill County High School will have a graduation ceremony like none before them.

FALLON, NV--The Churchill County High School Class of 2020 will celebrate their graduation on Friday, May 29, 2020, at 6:00 p.m. Only immediate family members of the students will be allowed on the grounds, in one vehicle, however, extended family members and friends are invited and encouraged to join in the graduation celebration from a distance!

Below are the various ways to be a part of the graduation while maintaining social distancing guidelines.

  • Student profiles will be featured at this site bit.ly/cchsgradsite and can be also be found in the Lahontan Valley News and the Fallon Post.

  • Student shout outs, speeches, including the valedictorian and keynote address, and the announcement of graduates will be broadcast on May 29 beginning at 5:30 P.M. on local radio stations KKTU (99.5 FM) and KVLV (980 AM).

  • The graduation procession will begin at 6:00 P.M.

  • The ceremony will be live-streamed on the District YouTube channel, as well as recorded (the recording will be edited and made available to graduates and their families). Visit this link to view the live-stream bit.ly/cchsgrad2020. In the case of a disruption to the live-stream, updated links and information will be posted to the CCHS Facebook page.

The Churchill County High School 2019-20 Co-Valedictorians are Ashby Brienne Trotter and Aspen Claire Easter. Many CCHS students will be graduating with various honors, including CCHS Greenwave Scholars (those who graduated with a 4.8+ GPA), Honors Diplomas, WNC Associates Degrees, College and Career Ready Diplomas, plus many other distinctions.

CCHS is honored to present Skier/Mountaineer/Sportsman/US Ski Hall of Fame Inductee Glen Plake as the keynote speaker for graduation 2020. The keynote address will be broadcast on the radio and made available on the CCHS 2020 Graduation website.

Please note, only one vehicle per graduate will be allowed into the procession—no other family or friends can be accommodated and no other vehicles will be permitted onto any CCHS property. Family members must remain in the vehicle while their graduate walks the stage and receives their diploma. Wearing a mask will be at the discretion of the graduate, but those on the stage will be wearing masks. Graduates and families will be encouraged to decorate their cars and caps (for this year only), and once they exit are encouraged to drive through town and celebrate!

If you are a senior or a parent/guardian of a senior, specific information regarding the graduation procession has been sent to you via Infinite Campus messenger.

The following information was shared with students and families via Infinite Campus Messenger on Monday, May 11, 2020:

May 29 is Graduation Day! A Graduation ceremony has been planned, and we are excited to be able to announce the details of the ceremony! Please read on if you have a graduating senior!

Coordinated by a committee made up of students, parents, teachers, administrators, business partners, and the mayor and county manager, CCHS will conduct a ‘drive-through’ graduation ceremony. Due to the state and county following the guidelines found in Phase I, we are able to have seniors and their families attend in one vehicle per senior, but are limited to no more than 10 people who can be located in one area outside of a vehicle. As such, a ‘drive-through’ ceremony is the most practical way to still have a ceremony that closely replicates our normal graduation ceremony while following Phase I guidelines. No other guests will be allowed at the ceremony, except whoever is driving the car and others who are in that vehicle. Seniors are encouraged to decorate their cars and celebrate their accomplishment!

Seniors and their families will be able to drive a vehicle to the south side of the CCHS stadium, closest to the scoreboard, where a stage will be set up (specifics on route and arrival details will be forthcoming). Seniors only will be able to get out of their vehicle, walk across the stage to receive their diploma, turn their tassel, and have their photo taken. Graduates will then return to their vehicle and exit onto Sheckler Road. The ceremony will be streamed live (more details provided soon), as well as heard on the local radio. Students or parents should call 775-423-5184 and leave a message (which will be returned within 24 hours or less) or email winters@churchillcsd.com if they have questions or do not have their own transportation so that arrangements can be made to help the student and his/her guardians.

Details are being put together as to the specifics of cap & gown and stole pickup, recording senior messages, including valedictorian speeches, a time schedule, and a route map to the stadium. Once these are finalized, they will be sent to each senior and his/her family.

In preparation for the big day, please make sure all fees are paid. In addition, after all AP and CTE testing is completed and a schedule has been released from the high school, please return all Chromebooks and chargers, wifi hotspots and chargers, textbooks, calculators, library books, etc.

Please be on the lookout for more information to come!!!
