本科課程特色介紹
KS1 – P.1 – P.3
Our school has adopted the Space Town Literacy Programme for our KS1 students. Apart from reading and writing, it includes additional aspects such as e-Learning, self-directed learning and a self-evaluation tool for schools to allow a more fruitful learning process for our KS1 students. The teaching of reading has been enhanced through the earlier introduction of guided reading and phonics strategies such as blending and encoding in P.1.
Space Town provides students with the opportunity to develop the ability to transfer their knowledge to new situations. Fun activities which are related to the content are often seen in the lessons, for example, making chocolate cakes during P.1 Unit 3 – Grandma and the Birthday Cake. All our KS1 students enjoy the Space Town Literacy Programme very much.
In order to be in line with the curriculum development, STEM elements have also been incorporated into the programme. In P.3, students work with their peers and give a first try on Scratch to create an animation to present a story of their own.
KS2 – P.4 – P.6
In order to ensure a smooth transition between KS1 and KS2, our school has refined the KS2 curriculum to allow more time for students to learn in a meaningful yet enjoyable way.
Our KS2 curriculum mainly comprises General English and Reading Workshops. For General English, School-based Module Booklets with meaningful tasks have been developed. Students are given a meaningful task at the beginning of each module where target grammar items, sentence structures and text types are learnt in a meaningful and purposeful context. Students are given opportunities to practise the four skills such as interviewing classmates and giving a presentation in the lessons. Furthermore, QR codes of content-related songs, videos and so forth are incorporated into the booklets to facilitate self-learning and e-Learning.
For Reading Workshops, e-Reading, authentic texts and popular children’s literature are used to increase students’ exposure to real English materials. Children’s literature provides children with holistic learning experiences. With fun and interactive activities such as Reader’s Theatre during Reading Workshops.
In order to provide students with a variety of learning experience in English, our school provide a wide range of activities for students throughout the year to arouse their interest in learning English.
English Morning Assemblies are held weekly. Student English Ambassadors are trained and help in some of the activities such as Spelling Bee during recess and English Fun Day. Students are also provided chances to chat and play with our NET in the English room during English Café and Chatting with NET sessions at recess. Students’ confidence and fluency in speaking English are highly raised through these interactive activities.
Besides, students are also encouraged to join different competitions such as solo speaking competitions, choral speaking competitions with our school team and writing competitions. They are also encouraged to join our school English Drama team to enjoy performing on stage. External English examination such as TOEFL Junior Test which provide them a detail analysis about their English performance are also held in school. In order to provide chances for parents to know more about our English curriculum and Space Town programme, Parent-Student English Class is also held for primary one parents. Parents and students both enjoy learning English together at school.
