Program Details
The Ph.D. program begins with a coursework phase in the first year, focusing on advanced economic theories. After successfully passing the Qualifying Examination, students proceed to the dissertation stage, conducting research in their chosen fields of interest, typically completed within 6 years.
Ph.D. Program Journey
First Year
Students complete coursework throughout the year, divided into three terms. In the first and second terms, students take core courses, including Advanced Microeconomics, Advanced Macroeconomics, Advanced Mathematics for Economists, and Advanced Econometrics. The third term focuses on seminars with faculty members, allowing students to explore their research interests and identify potential fields of specialization and advisors.
Second Year
Students begin developing their thesis topics and research direction. During this stage, they prepare for the Qualifying Examination, which evaluates the feasibility and academic potential of their proposed research.
Third Year
Students defend their dissertation proposal. At this stage, they are expected to have a clear and well-developed research plan covering all components of their dissertation.
Fourth to Fifth Year
Students focus on conducting research, presenting their work at academic conferences, and publishing in academic journals in accordance with program requirements. The final stage is the dissertation defense, and the program duration may be extended up to the sixth year if necessary.
Academic Terms
The Ph.D. Program is a full-time program (Study in office hours Monday to Friday)
The students must register for all three semesters during the academic year. There are five compulsory courses during the first year total credit 15 credits and students must getting grade no less than 3 points average out of the 4-point system.
The students are required to pass qualifying examination within the 6th semester upon their entrance to the program.
The students will also need to register for the dissertation course total credit 36 credits.
The total number of credits for the completion of the program is 51 credits.
From the second year onward, the students will concentrate on their research. Publication and presentations in international conference are mandatory to graduate from the program.
The final dissertation examination must be completed within 6 years upon their entrance to the program.
