Students 

A.     Full-time International Students

Full-time international students are degree-seeking students, who are permanent residents or citizens of another country. For admission as a full-time degree-seeking student, please visit the programme websites  for more information about admission criteria and application process.

B.     Student exchange and visiting students

As an exchange student, you would study abroad under an existing student exchange agreement and you would typically be exempt from paying tuition and fees to the host university during your exchange period. 

As a visiting student, you study abroad independently (i.e. not under an existing student exchange agreement) and you would be required to pay tuition and fees to the host university during the exchange period. 

Academic credits earned abroad by exchange and visiting students may be transferred back and counted towards the degree at the home university.

If you are studying at one of our partner institutions around the world, you can apply for admission as an exchange student, provided your home university has selected and nominated you as an exchange student.  Follow the links for information about study options, other academic information, and general information.

Application and acceptance process for exchange students: 

Step 1:        Nomination

                        The exchange coordinator of your home university nominates you to the Faculty of Economics, Chulalongkorn University by email. Note that nominations must be made at least one month before the application deadline.


Step 2:          Application

                          Undergraduate

                        You apply for admission using the EBA online exchange portal. You will receive an email from the faculty’s exchange coordinator within one week acknowledging receipt of your application. Fill in the application form using link below.

                         Graduate

                      Fill in the application form using google forms.  Click here  to proceed. Before submitting the completed application form, print to pdf and send the pdf file together with all supporting documents to econ_int.off@chula.ac.th.


Step 3:         Acceptance 

                        If your application is successful, we will send you a letter of acceptance, documents supporting your application for a visa and some pre-arrival information.


Application and acceptance process for visiting students 

For visiting students, only steps 2 and 3 are relevant. 

Note : Your application will be considered by the host programme committee, the International Affairs Committee and the faculty board. This process will be completed within two months after the application deadline.

Study options for inbound exchange and visiting students 

The Faculty of Economics, Chulalongkorn University, offers a comprehensive range of undergraduate and graduate programmes. In total, there are three Thai and two international programmes to choose from. While international programmes are entirely taught in English, Thai programmes primarily use Thai as the language of instruction, with some courses being offered in two languages. Courses are taught by faculty members and visiting professors.

Outgoing students

The Faculty of Economics, Chulalongkorn University offers students the opportunity to study one or two consecutive semesters in a foreign country under a bilateral or multilateral student exchange agreement. Exchange students continue to pay tuition to their home university and maintain their student status at Chulalongkorn University. They are exempt from paying tuition to the host institution. Academic credits earned at the host institution may be transferred back and counted toward their degree.

Application and selection process 

The application and selection process is under taken once a year and commences in the year preceding the academic year.  Applicant must be 2nd ,3rd or 4th year students applies through the online application, which is based on the selection criteria on academic record (GPAX), English language requirement (CU-Tep or equivalent) and evidence of participation in extra-curricular activities. International Affairs Office announces time line of selection process for academic year 2019  early second semester of academic year the application process and more details  in URL below  as well as the allocation of slots depends on the level of agreement.

Academic Calendar

Whereas the undergraduate programmes operate on a semester basis, with an optional summer term, the graduate programmes run on a trimester basis. Teaching at the undergraduate level is organised in semester-based units. Graduate programmes usually offer one course per month.


Nomination deadline 

Exchange students must be nominated by their home university by email at least one month before the end of the application deadline. Nomination letter can be sent to econ_int.off@chula.ac.th

Course selection

You will find information about courses here. Some courses have pre-requisites and you should carefully read the course descriptions before registration begins. You will not be offered a place in a course for which you do not fulfil the pre-requisites. Although we try to accommodate students’ preferences, we cannot guarantee that you will be offered a place in the courses you have chosen. Seats may be limited, courses may be cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances or there may be time conflicts with other courses. In addition to courses offered by the Faculty of Economics at Chulalongkorn University, students may request to take one additional course offered by another faculty. 

Registration

Student ID number and card

New students are required to complete a personal data form and register for courses through the website of the Office of the Registrar during the late registration period. Information about the late registration period and required documents is also available on the website of the Office of the Registrar.

Student ID numbers will be sent to students before the start of the semester/trimester. Students can have their student ID card, which at the same time is a Kasikorn Bank debit card, issued via the CU NEX application. When opening a bank account with Kasikorn Bank, international students must present their passport, as well as a letter certifying their student status, issued by the Office of the Registrar, Chulalongkorn University (note that the Office of the Registrar charges a fee of THB 100 for issuing such letter), to the Kasikorn Bank officer.

General Information

Visa Information

Students must apply for a non-immigrant visa (category ED) at a Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate in their home country before entering Thailand. The IAO does not provide any supporting documents for visa conversions (e.g. converting a tourist visa into a non-immigrant visa). Student visas will be cancelled two weeks after the end of the final exam week. 

The IAO issues letters in support of visa extension requests, provided requests are made before the deadline. To request a visa extension support letter, submit a copy of your passport (picture page and arrival stamp) at the IAO. Note that requests submitted by email will not be processed until a legible hardcopy of your passport has been received. Once the visa extension support letter has been made available, students can go to Immigration Bureau and apply for a visa extension. The application fee currently is THB 2,000 and the application form can be downloaded here

A re–entry permit is typically required if you plan to leave Thailand during your study abroad period. Students can apply for a re-entry permit at the Immigration Bureau or online and the fee for single re-entry permit is THB 1,900 at present (THB 3,800 for a multiple re-entry permit). Note that the expiration date of the re-entry permit is tied to the expiration date of your non-immigrant visa. The application form can be downloaded here. Should your non-immigrant visa (ED)  all as multiple entries, a re-entry permit is not required.

 Students must report every 90 days to the Immigration Bureau, in person, online or by mail. 90-day registrations by mail must sent at least seven days before the due date. The notification form can be downloaded here.

Note that all forms of the Immigration Bureau must be printed on both sides.

Accommodation

We assist students in arranging accommodation. Subject to availability, exchange students may stay at university residences or at serviced apartments nearby. The monthly rent for university residences (CU iHouse) is THB 14,000-25,000. Please find more details here. Note that landlords typically ask for a deposit to cover any damages or rent that's owed. This deposit has to be made on the day students move in and the usual deposit amount ranges from one month’s rent to three month’s rent. Note that the rent is typically paid monthly and that students would pay in advance for the month. The accommodation form is available here.

International Club

The EBA International Club welcomes exchange and visiting students, as well as full-time degree-seeking students. It is run by a team of students of the Faculty of Economics, and seeks to bring international and local students together. The EBA International Club also cooperates with the Chulalongkorn University International Club and other international clubs at the university.   

The EBA International Club aims at creating an unforgettable experience for international students, in addition to offering a chance for local students to participate and learn about different cultures. 

The EBA International Club arranges various activities such as, for example, welcome trip, Thai language class, Thai boxing class and Thai cooking class etc.

Health

We advise you to read the travel & health recommendations for Thailand issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in your home country. Chulalongkorn University maintains a Health Service Centre that provides primary care services at Chamchuri 9 Building for students and staff. Ambulance services are also available to bring patients to nearby Chulalongkorn Hospital should this be necessary. 

International students are required to purchase adequate health insurance, covering their stay in Thailand, before leaving their home country!

CU Wellness

While university’s life can be filled with of exciting and fun moments, it can also cause some hard times and overwhelming situations when students feel that they need help. Besides medication, we also to take care of our students’ mental wellness located on the 3rd floor of the Chamchuri 9 Building, students can receive various kinds of service. Working hours: Mon-Fri, 08.30-12.00 hrs. and 13.00-17.00 hrs.

Living expenses

We estimate that your living expenses will be around THB 30,000 per month (3 meals per day, transportation costs, and personal expenses), excluding accommodation and luxury items. 

 

CU Learning Innovation Center

​As the world has entered a digital era, we have to adapt our learning system to match with society’s demand. The CU Learning Innovation Center has created a number of innovations to help our students and  the public access to education, such as Course Ville, Blackboard, Chula Clicker, Smart Classroom, Interactive Classroom and online library

The university bookstore operates on a non-profit basis and provides a wide range of magazines, periodicals, textbooks and other books, as well as accessories. It has four branches:

CU Sport Complex and Chula Centenary Park

 The university’s sport facilities include an open-air stadium with a capacity of 10,000 spectators, where major inter-faculty and inter-university competitions are held. There are several gyms, a judo hall and a shooting range. Tennis courts, swimming-pools and various other outdoor sports facilities are open to all students. The spacious green areas on campus are used by students for a variety of athletic activities. The Chula Centenary Park is a good place for jogging.

The store offers consumer goods and student uniforms, provides a range of services and operates in four locations, namely Sala Phra Kieo, student residence halls, Chamchuri 9 and Faculty of Dentistry.

Restaurants

Several cafeterias, canteens, and small restaurants, offering modestly priced meals, are situated at various campus locations. They are open from early morning until evening. Prices per (delicious) dish range from THB 30 to THB 50, prices for drinks (such as ice coffee or tea, fruit shakes) from THB 12 to THB 20. In Chamchuri Square, there are many restaurants and there is a canteen in the basement. 

Transportation in Bangkok

Flea market  

Flea markets take place on Tuesdays and Fridays near the Sala Pha Kieo Building. Local vendors sell fresh produce, handicraft and clothes.

                           1. Airport Rail Link: From Suvarnabhumi International Airport to Makkasan MRT Station. At Makkasan MRT Station, walk to the Phetchaburi MRT Station.

                           2. MRT: From Phetchaburi MRT Station to Sam Yan MRT Station.

                           3. Walk to the Faculty of Economics at Chulalongkorn University (5 minutes).

                          AOT Airport Limousines are available in the arrival hall on the 2nd floor. 

Metered Taxi Service 

                          Level 1 - Ground Level, near entrances 3, 4, 7 and 8. Metered taxi fare (about 400.- THB) plus 50.-THB airport surcharge, and expressway fees (75.-THB). 

Counselling

The International Affairs Office seeks to be a home away from home. When in difficulty, it should be the first place for you to turn to. If we can't help, you will be directed to someone who can. Apart from individual counselling, our services include social and orientation activities for new students from abroad and the buddy programme.
