In our classrooms, we promote an atmosphere of safety, trust and respect. We work hard to build a sense of community among our students. We value cooperation and collaboration, both in our classrooms and as we work with our peers. We believe that great things can happen when we work hard.
We strongly believe that 5th grade is where each child learns to become independent learners and thinkers. This is the year for each child to figure out what works best for them. Please help us in making this transition successful for them by encouraging independence and perseverance through these sometimes difficult middle school years.
In 5th grade, the planner becomes the main form of communication home to school. Please read through the planner each night! Look for important dates and information. Follow up with your child about assignments in the planner! The planner is where you will find daily homework and assignments. This helps set the stage for success in 6th grade and beyond.
Check through the homework folder. Do this with your child. They should be able explain each piece of work in their folder!
Encourage 30 minutes of independent reading (fiction, nonfiction, magazines, and series books) each night.
Students should be practicing their math skills online using our website resources for at least 10 minutes each night.
