CHHS Chorus

CHHS Chorus

Mission Statement

The CHHS Chorus is a group that is dedicated to performing high quality music in a variety of genres including Classical, Jazz, Gospel, Pop, Spirituals etc. We will strive for high standards of musicianship in both rehearsals and performances as well as continuing to develop skills such as sight-singing and music theory. In addition, this year all chorus members will be required to have 2 call-ins per quarter. on music we are preparing for concerts.

The CHHS Select Chorus is a performing group chosen by audition to perform more challenging choir music from many different genres. Students chosen for this group are held to very high vocal standards and are asked to call in weekly to demonstrate knowledge of their particular vocal part within a piece of music.

Chorus Expectations

Arrive on time please! If you are late, you must have a pass explaining why.

Every minute counts when you are preparing for a performance so I want to begin on time with no interruptions!

Please stash your cellphones and do not take them out during chorus. If there is any reason to use them in the course of rehearsals, I’ll let you know to bring them. Disregarding this expectation could result in a lowered grade.

Please participate fully and wholeheartedly. LEAN IN! Will you love every piece we sing? Maybe or maybe not, but I expect you to behave honorably and give it your best.

Please keep an open mind about any and all music we perform. Don’t judge it until we can perform it well. Some pieces/songs are difficult and it’s easy to dismiss them, but they can be worth it. Very often we will work on more material than we need and we vote on which ones to perform.

Respect matters!! This is a classroom where people should feel safe and respected at all times. Regardless of differences, respect is a must!

Please help me keep the chorus music off of the floor. You will have folders this year so please return them from whence they came!

Grading Policy

Class Participation

Being on time, participating in a positive way all helps to boost your grade 50%

Being late, leaving for long, long breaks, talking during an active rehearsal, and repeated cell phone use all will lead to lowering your grade.

Written/Sung Assessments

In chorus this could be small group based performance of certain sections of your music and call ins. In Select Chorus it would be based upon your call-ins. There will also be occasional written quizzes on certain aspects of music theory or sight singing.

Concert attendance

Participation at evening concerts is mandatory. Short of a major illness or death in the family, a missed concert will result in a lowered grade. Concert dress is white on top and black on the bottom. 25%
