One of the aims of the School Travel Plan is to improve safety. The initiative of making the campus pedestrian-friendly is contained within the "traffic risk assessment", but other initiatives extend beyond our School gates.
Cheadle Hulme railway station is on the Manchester Piccadilly to Crewe & Stoke-on-Trent rail lines and is approximately a 12-minute walk away from School. Click here to view a map of the public pathways between the station and School.
The most direct route to walk is via the public footpath linking Heathbank Road with Waitrose by going past Hesketh Park or Haslemere Drive; alternatively using Mellor Road to reach Swann Lane and joining Hulme Hall Road or a quieter route via Hill Top Avenue towards Upton Avenue (please see the map below). Students from Cheadle Hulme School and also Cheadle Hulme High School frequently walk these routes at peak school-run times.
Many people walk, scoot and cycle to School and those who do, mainly use Claremont Road which connects to the footways on Heathbank Road and Hulme Hall Road, and is identified as an on-road cycle route / advisory quiet route. Other surrounding residential streets are suitable routes, as they are generally lightly trafficked and have low vehicle speeds which lead on to traffic-free cycle routes through Bruntwood Park to Cheadle and Heald Green.
There is a school crossing at our School Lane entrance. The inner-School campus is pedestrian-friendly and vehicle-free to allow students, staff and visitors to walk around School safely and efficiently.
